any insight on port orleans

hi guys...just booked 3 rooms at port orleans...never stayed there before so looking for some feedback....when i went in may, i stayed at cbr and loved it....has anyone stayed at both that can compare for me? thanks

I don't think you can go wrong at either. I have stayed at POR and CBR. My kids and I preferred CBR but would go back to both of them.

You didnt specify Port Orleans Riverside or Port Orleans French Quarter?

Assuming that its Riverside, the layout is basically the same as CBR. I have stayed at both and while I LOVED CBR, the theming at POR won me over a little bit more. The grounds are so gorgeous at night, horse drawn carriages going by, the boat ride to DTD is very relaxing. There are 2 seperate sections MAgnolia bend (the mansions) or Alligator Bayou (more of a cabin theme) Both are very nice, and have their own charm....we prefer the mansions though. The foodcourt area is also so cool, there is a giant water wheel on the side of the building....I loved just walking around the resort.

PO French Quarter, is much smaller and convenient and the theme is more mardi gras. Just as lovely and well themed as CBR and POR, just a smaller lay out.

We stayed at POFQ back when it was the only POR, and we loved it. We stayed at CBR last year and we really enjoyed it too. I’ve never stayed at PO Riverside if that is what your question is about.

Both have cool main pools. The dragon pool at POFQ is my favorite pool at all the moderates, but the CBR has smaller pools at all the islands in addition to the main “cannon” pool.

You trade the big lake & beach at CBR for the boat ride to Downtown Disney at POR, so that comes out pretty even. (BTW – the boat seemed faster than the bus was to DD) If you are driving your own car, you can park much closer at CBR – 30 ft. walk for us. The gift shop and food court seemed larger at CBR, but that’s probably because it is a larger resort. It was cool being able to watch the MK fireworks from the top of the playground near the lake at CBR, I don’t think there is anything like that at POR.

I would have to say that I preferred POFQ. It is smaller than CBR so it is not as spread out. I thought the themeing was executed more thoroughly or perhaps I just like that theme better. We will probably stay there again soon, since the first time was pre-kids.

I've stayed at CBR and POFQ, and enjoyed them both too. I haven't stayed at POR, so I can't comment on that.

As has been said, POFQ is much more compact, cozy even. There is much less walking around needed to get from your room to the food court/bus stop/etc. However, POFQ does have the advantage of being 'sistered' with POR (and vice versa) so if walking is your thing, you definitely have the option to roam around. You can also go to the opposite resort to eat and whatnot, if you want to.

I agree, the boat ride to DTD is a big plus. I really enjoyed that trip, especially at night. Passing the treehouses in the dark was just super cool (ok, so I'm easily amused).

POFQ is close enough to hear the fireworks nightly from DTD, but I'm not sure you can see them. I never looked though. I would imagine that the more remote parts of POR wouldn't be able to see or hear really, but that's just a guess.

I think you'll have a good time regardless of which resort you're at (POR or POFQ). I definitely liked POFQ as much as CBR, and would love to stay there again someday.
