i used a 50mm f1/8 and a couple of the white areas on her shirt came out blue???

White balance issue? There is more shadow in that area and it appeared as a blue shadow. Could be because white balance is off.

hmm considering white balance is on auto that might mean something is wrong with it?. it's av mode but other than that everything is the default settings..i didn't even have a uv filter on as i had been using a cp and forgot the uv lens in the house.

actually the rest of the colors on my monitor at least are a tinge browner than real life ( ie the shorts are a little more yellow than the gold they look on mine but the rest is pretty much right) the default parameter 1 for canon rebel is 0 color tone and saturation is med high ( like the contrast and sharpness)

There is probably nothing wrong with your camera. White balance is set by a program and is not always accurate. The camera has no way of knowing what should be white, and the large amount of green and pink in the photo could have confused the program.

From the eveness of the light the photo appears to have been taken in open shade, which is a lot more blue than direct sunlight. The UV filter would not help much if any at all, blue is far out of the UV range. Use your image editing software to take out some blue, the image should come out much better.

This is a good reason to use RAW, it has no white balance settings applied so it is easy to change the white balance later, without losing any data.

And as someone already noted, she is adorable! :)

i just was looking at the canon learning white balance info and the auto seems to be more of a cool/bluish setting to start with..yes it was outside but cloudy. i have been playing around a little with my limited ok very limited software skills but so far can't fix it...a couple of pictures ( just inside the large open doors of a barn were even more blue. so i think that probably is the case...guess i'll have to go with another setting in those types of situations.

btw thanks ...i think she's cute and of course i'm not partial at all :rotfl:

I think you can fix it pretty easily. If you have PS you can adjust the curves and colors. I usually did not shoot in RAW but after seeing what I could do with it, I swaer by it now. And yes she is a cutie :)

Jann--you have PSE, don't you? Have you tried the "remove color cast" function? Just click the eyedropper on several different points in her shirt and see what you come up with. I have similar white balance issues sometimes with my D70, particularly in open shade, as boBQuincy mentioned. Guess maybe I should be shooting in raw.

It's a sweet picture regardless. I like her expression.

here's how i fixed it after ripping my hair out for hrs

You might have the auto white balance set, but check the settings for lighting temperature. Had this happen once and it was due to temperature being set more towards a light bulb type setting than to the sun :sunny: . My blue Jeep turned real blue, as did the chrome, the white stripes in the flag, my house in the background, etc

The camera will attempt to compensant by turning up the blues to offset the effects of certain light bulbs. If this setting is accidently hit, you will get this affect. :groom: :woohoo: :sad2: ;)

The pose is quite cute. The slightly overhead viewpoint works well.
One click fixes work some of the time. Somtimes they go too far or not far enough. May I suggest cloning away the mole on the dolly.

Nice job with the capture and edit!

the "mole" on the doll's head matches the "i got into grandma's permanent marker " hieroglyphics all over the legs you can't see in the picture

it does look yellowish but the hair color, shorts etc are the right color( at least on my monitor). she's pretty tan due to a day at the beach a few days ago so maybe that's why. this was on the shaded side of the house in late morning and the sky was very blue that day so maybe the light was different than normal also :confused3

What beautiful pictures, she is just adorable. To my very untrained eyes, I couldn't even see what was wrong with the pics till they were pointed out. I can only dream of taking such nice pictures someday!
