hey everyone, i was just informed that this summer (probably the last week of august) my family and possibly two others will be going to disney, making a group total of 8 people. two years ago we stayed at OKW Villas (which we all loved because they were massive) and AKL villas. I was wondering if any of you have experienced a party of this size-- if so, what were your accommodations like? we prefer staying on property and would not care to buy more than one room (only if it is a better deal haha).

thanks!

With 3 families I highly recommend 3 rooms. Either 3 Studios, 3 Standard rooms, or a 1 Bedroom and 2 Studios. It all depends on the makeup of each family.

We absolutely love the Epcot Area Resorts. Nothing beats being able to walk to 2 parks and it's centrally located to every other destination on property.

While I have not done it myself, I have read that the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs can sleep up to 9 adults.

You can't fit 8 people into a single room unless you book a 2 (or 1?) bedroom villa which is probably more expensive than 3 rooms at a value moderate resort.

No, they can sleep nine persons plus one under the age of three. One bedroom has a set of bunk beds in it and they are not as big as a twin sized bed (shorter and narrower). I don't think full sized adults would be comfortable in the bunk beds. Two real queen beds (one in each of the other bedrooms), one queen sleeper sofa and twin sleeper chair in the living room.

IF one is available, you cannot beat a grand villa at one of the DVC resorts! We stayed in a BWV GV last fall and it was amazing! Three bedrooms (2 with 2Q beds and a master with 1K) plus a massive living room and dining room, 3 full bathrooms (some have a 4th bathroom) and a full kitchen. It was so relaxing to get up in the morning and grab a cup of coffee, sit on one of the many balconies we had and just relax. If the weather was bad or it was too hot outside, we had plenty of space to sit inside and chat. No one felt like they were left out of anything because we were all there in one villa.

The GVs are pricey. I used almost 3 years of my DVC points at BWV to book it for a week. To rent one thru one of the DVC rental agencies, it would have cost almost $8K. I have no idea what Disney might charge.

wow that sounds like a great time! we always wanted to purchase a grand villa, but they seemed to pricey. the last trip we stayed at a 2 bedroom villa at OKW and it was so amazing. we loved how large the rooms were and the kitchen was a plus!

regarding dvc rentals, do you know anything about how strict david's rentals is in regards to reservation dates? we would like to go in august and im wondering if it is too late to get a room on his site.

It's more about David's having an owner with enough available points and if there are DVC villas available for the time that you want to go. IOW, there might be a GV available at AKV (not saying that there actually is, just using it as an example) but David's might not have any owners who want to rent out 654 points. David's does not have an inventory of villas waiting to be booked. They have a collection of DVC owners who have expressed an interest in using their points to make a reservation for a renter. You really have to go thru the rental process and pay the deposit in order to have them check to see what's available for you. FWIW, August is not considered to be a high-demand period for DVC. You may get lucky if you don't want to book a studio.

If they have availability, you can book. You can't cancel without penalty however, so, if you go this route, really make sure those are the dates you want to go. When you fill in the form, you can give a first and second choice. If one pops up, you're locked in. If your first and second choice don't come up, he will offer an alternative if available. You just really need to know your dates and know that's what you want, because once you book, you're stuck.

If you really want to do that GV up right, book the GFV grand villas. Only 993 points for a week in August.

our family stopped being dvc members a few years ago (but still get the monthly newsletters lol). what are some good websites to buy/rent dvc points? 993 looks like an amazing deal.

correction: where did you see that it was 993 a month?

993 points not dollars. Slight difference;)

Not a month, just a week in August.
