Let's say that I want to book a 5-night stay but the first night is not available...but the rest are. So, I waitlist the ENTIRE 5 nights. Now, amazingly, the next day I check, and the last 4 nights are still available. If I book them, do I fall to the bottom of the list for that first day, which would now be a 1-night waitlist? Or do I "keep my spot" since I started the waitlist the day before?

Im not good with the ins and outs but why wouldnt you just book he four nights available and waitlist the one night? That is what I would do so at least you know you have most of your stay.

Oh sorry I just reread your post wih my glasses and didnt really see your main question until end. Ill be knterested in this too.

I would book the 4 nights and wait list the 1 night. From what I understand there is no specific list and you have a better chance of matching the wait list with 1 night than with all 5 nights.

The only time I would wait list the whole 5 nights is if I had a reservation at another hotel and didn't want to move unless I could get the 5-nights.

I think, and a big, I think... that if you book the 4 nights and keep the 5 night waitlist you could get a new reservation for 5 nights if the whole thing came through. Your chances of getting a one night waitlist are good. I would book your 4 nights and set up a one night waitlist and cancel your 5 night waitlist. What I would do if I were you is go onto the chat feature at the Disney Vacation Club site and ask them. They would have the answer you need and they answer you right away. It's a great feature.

Yes, you should fall to the bottom, but now instead of needing a waitlist for 5 nights to fill, which is more difficult, you only need the one night. Since they fill in an entirety and don't hold and gather nights to fill waitlists you might actually jump ahead of some because you only need the one night to match. And you're only talking 1 day difference in setting up the waitlist. Having the 4 nights and waitlisting the one will be better although you do have to be aware that nothing may open up and you'd have a split stay.

Anytime you make a change to your waitlist, you start over in line. On the bright side, the 1 night waitlist should be much easier to fill than a 5 night waitlist :)

Ok, thanks everyone:sunny:

I'm totally stressing because the rest of the family rented points to get a 2BR standard at BWV for the full week (lucky!) and now we are trying to use our AKV/HHI points to try and get as many nights in a 1BR at BWV as we possibly can. We don't have enough for the full week in a P/G view so we are definitely doing a split stay. Booking at 7-months for October is hard with split-stays because it is SO important to do it as soon as that window opens. I'm sure we can get the whole week at OKW or AKV (and we have enough points for either) but we've stayed at both several times and really want to try something new:flower3:.

I guess I will just have to wait until next week and see what happens:hippie:.

I'd wait list the entire stay that first day it's not available then if I get the rest of the days the next day, I'd add in a one night wait list for the single night and cancel the first wait list. If you found you're always one day late because the first day is booked, I'd still wait list exactly the same wait listing the entire stay plus day one separately and adding the next day as a wait list if not available once you match the first. An alternative is to just wait list one or 2 days at a time. IMO management of the wait list is one of the keys to making DVC work if you don't own at a resort you want to stay at essentially 100% of the time but care where you stay.
