Any ideas for surprising kids?

to the poster who wanted an idea for ds7 (his sis was getting Tink earrings)... how about a watch w/ a character (pirate or power rangers?)

An idea that popped into my head for telling a group of kids... whenever we have to take a group photo of multiple kids, we always have the dads jumping up and down behind us to get the little ones to smile, etc. Asking them all to say funny things instead of "cheese"... you could take a group photo and start by saying "say cheese", then say something a little cornier like "say banana", "say i'm a monkey", etc, etc, and lead up to "say we're all going to disneyworld" (then you'll probably have to say "say no really, we're all going to disneyworld!")... of course someone else should be videotaping it too. You'll hopefully get some funny photos out of it.

And yes, i'm a sap too! i get a little weepy reading these too.

Our kids DS7 DD6 DS2 have no idea we are going in October. They think we are talking about going next October. We are planning on getting them up for school and telling them then. Its going to be hard to keep it a secret. I did tell the 2 year old, but if he blabs I can deny it.:goodvibes

My children know that we are going just not when we are going, so it is on a Friday (during school) I am going to say that we have a dentist appt and have her wear something Disney & then when we go to pick up DH from work & drive down to the airport, I will have the camera rolling:yay: . Maybe more ideas to come!:cool1:

That sounds great! Let us know!!popcorn::

we are going in sept, and this will be my first time! I am busting at the seams!
We are surprising her, she will know nothing, except we have to take daddy to the airport, 1.5 hours away in baltimore, for work. She can read, so she will know daddy is going to baltimore, and he will "invite" her to go along on his trip! She won't have a clue about securtiy, and luggage. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's killing me! I kinda wish that we could plan it more together, but I am saving that for trip #2! I really want to surprise her. All she talks about is wanting to go to disney! She will be a handful on the flight from bwi to mco, and thank heavens we will be able to let her loose in the parks to burn off the excitement once she gets there.

What great surprises here!

We surprised our DD for her birthday in 2006. DD, who was turning 7, thought we were just spending the weekend in Dallas. Eating at Rainforest Cafe and getting a trip to Build-A-Bear were her main presents, or so she thought.

I ordered a Build-A-Bear tee online and used craft paint to write "Disney World January 7th-17th, 2006" on the shirt. We wrapped it in a blue star box and gave it to her as her final present after we returned from Build-A-Bear. Watching the realization wash across her face was priceless! I don't know how any of us ever got to sleep that night. :wizard:

I would love to surprise our kids again someday, but I don't know how I'd be able to keep quiet. The only thing that kept my sanity for this surprise was being about to talk to DS (then 2) about the trip. I don't think he'd keep the secret again! :teeth:

We will be leaving out of BWI as well in Oct for us. Hello neighbor!:yay:

We are going to Disney in September and want to surprise our two DD's. I have been trying to think of a creative way to tell them. We don't want to let them know until the day we leave and we leave pretty early in the morning. The girls are 10 and 3. Any suggestions?

We surprised our kids twice. The first time we bought them new luggage for Christmas and filled it with Disney shirts which I always buy on sale. At the bottom of the luggage we printed off a certificate to a Vacation at Walt Disney World. My son was 4 so we had to explain it but my daughter was 6 and could read very well and she kept screaming and jumping up and down. The second time we were more creative. We told the kids we were travelling to see their grandparents in Dothan. We left at 3am from Alabama so they slept until we were in Tallahasee. We woke them up and I had the video camera on. I had purchased two blankets online at disneystore.com and had them personalized with their favorite character and their name. We gave them their present to open and then told them that we were not going to Dothan and they were all sad. Then we screamed that we were going to WDW. And my husband and I expected a scream and all we got were blank faces. We kept saying it and they kept looking at us like we were nuts. Then the questions came: no way are we really going, how can we go when we didn't pack, what about dothan, etc. We answered them all and showed them their suitcases packed with their new shirts and fun stuff. It took 15 minutes to convince them we were not joking and then they yelled and screamed. My son however some 30 minutes later said "But I wanted to go to Dothan." We all laughed and then they called family that already knew. We kept it a secret for 6 months. They loved it especially the fact that we were half-way there too. It was one of our favorite visits. We are planning our 11th visit for January 08.
