That's thoughtful and budget friendly?
I need to give him something from DD and I... and we definitely don't need anymore crap in the house. Plus I'm trying to save $ for our next trip.

So anyone has any ideas?
I'm sure we'll go out to dinner, but I was thinking of getting/making him something else. Just don't know what...

any ideas?

Last year we made Dad a T shirt with the kids hands on it (in fabric paint) and upside down that said "Best Dad in the World Hands Down!" He loved it and they loved making it......there are other ideas for shirts on the web also: give Dad a Pat on the Back etc etc

I got him two Disney T-shirts for our trip in October.... LOL his birthday and our wedding aniversary are in July and he's getting two shirts at each of those as well. LOL Plus the Rookie Experience at Richard Petty for his birthday so he has months to look forward to it!

Michael's crafts has free events at their stores for kids to make stuff for their Dads... frames, drink holders and the like.

my kids are making handprint in cement with their playgroup. another thing we are doing, which isnt really "cheap" but in his fathers day card i am going to fold up the reservation paper that Disney emailed me yesterday when i booked our room. he knows that i want to go to disney and he wants to really go but he thinks we wont have the money for it. so he is going to be really surprised and so excited when he opens his card! i want to tell him so badly and im just bursting at them seams!!

im also cooking him dinner and making him a cake.

My husband wants grill stuff. I'm going to buy him a couple of nice pairs of tongs and a grill brush.

There is no way I could get my husband to wear something like that.

We are going to give him a bucket full of car wash supplies, etc and the kids are going to 'detail' his car! (Heck maybe I'll get them to do mine while they're at it!)

thanks for ideas! Any more?
Keep em coming!

I'm getting dh a new cell phone because his is from the stone-age.
The kids are making him stuff in school.

I got DH some jeans and pajamas, as well as some of his favorite "snacky" foods that I don't normally buy. He always roams the house at night looking for something to snack on, so we'll do up a nice basket for him with those items. Not very exciting, but DH isn't a fancy kind of guy, and I know he'll enjoy it.

For my Dad, it was harder. He doesn't need anything, really, and since he lives so far away, it's not practical to ship gifts. He is on a special diet, so gift cards to restaurants don't get used, either. We finally decided to get him a membership to Old Sturbridge Village (a historical park in the area). He and my mom enjoy going there and walking around on nice days. It isn't bad for him to eat, he doesn't have to store it, and the membership pays for itself after two visits, so it's a winner all the way around. It's a grandparents' membership, so they will be able to get my nieces in for free, as well.

I(well DS &I) got him a camo Phillies shirt, and I am going to have DS make him a stepping stone for his garden. Plus he's getting a new baby in a couple weeks so that should be good enough...at least he's getting something, he didn't even think about getting me anything for mother's day...but that's another issue...lol. (<- Now don't be thinking DH is horrible, he's just horrible with the gift thing, so if that's the worst I have to deal with I guess I'll take it.)

We always take my DH to an early movie and then I make a nice dinner. It's usually a disney movie! Last year it was UP, this year Toy Story, and we're all grown ups!!!

I know it is over for today but they should be doing the same thing (different project) next week and I think you can buy the kits for cheap:

Lowe's has 'build and grow' every Saturday for kids to build something. Today we built a picture frame. I'm having the kids paint it and then I'll put a picture of each of them with their dad in it for his fathers day gift.

The best thing about the build and grow program is that... it's free! And my kids really loved it a lot more then I thought they would.

Lowe's gives them a little apron and a patch to sew on after each project with the name of the project on the patch and they keep the apron. It's adorable.

I didn't know about this. I just signed my kids up, thank you!!!

OP, check photo sights like Shutterfly, Kodak, Snapfish etc. They run specials around holidays and sometimes you can make your own photo book for free and just pay shipping. I made one for dh a couple years ago and it is really nice quality. You upload your pics, pick your background, add captions and you are done. Its so easy (and can be very inexpensive).

My sons are both older and both working so I suggested that they get their dad tickets to see the Mets play (about the same price as the gift they got me for Mother's Day) But he just got a call last week from a friend and they went to a game this week.

Now we are getting him tickets to the car wash that will fit his truck.

Thanks everyone!
The ideas helped a lot :)

Awesome - have fun!

It's nice because the project can last a few days. They can build on Saturday... paint/decorate it on Monday... etc.

I love it!

I just wanted to quickly add a suggestion for a great but inexpensive Fathers Day gift. I'll be quite honest. Yes this product is my creation but has been a pretty big hit across Wisconsin. The Birdie Book is WIsconsin's new statewide discount golf book that consists of over 90+ great WI courses. Each course has a minimum of 2 aggressive tee time discounts. Most are 2 for 1 or 50% off type deals. It's basically the entertainment book of golf but spans the state. It's a high quality $20.00 book that any golfer in any part of the state would thoroughly enjoy. We're based out of Madison and you can purchase the book online at or a local distributor like Nevada Bob's. We currently have a Fathers Day special going on which is: Buy a book for your Father or loved one and we will send you a second at no charge. *Good online only as it would confuse the heck out of our golf shops that sell it. Please let me know what you think and have a great week!
