Any idea when we will be able to borrow 100% of our next UY’s points again?

I’m planning a family reunion using points for next Thanksgiving and would really like to be able to use more than 50% of my 2022 use year points. I realize there’s almost no chance it resets in the next month but has anyone heard anything about when or even if DVC will go back to the previous policy?

I too think we won’t see the reversal until 2022. If it came back in 2021, it would be sometime spring or summer for trips starting Spring of 2022.

Thanks for the thoughts. I’m really hoping this is just a one off- never to be repeated - occurrence that we are going through and once this back log is worked off we can go back to operating as normal. .

Maybe you can get a transfer from another DVC member for the difference on the dis rental board? Seems silly since you own the points, but if you need the points at 11 months to make the ressie...not ideal, but you'd get what you need. Enjoy your reunion!

I would imagine there are A LOT of people who purchased just enough points to do this every year.

I am sure there will be a lot of pissed off people if they keep this longer then necessary.

Contract guru @Sandisw :), do our contracts say they could do this indefinitely if they really wanted too?

Yes, they can suspend banking and borrowing as it is part of the Home resort rules and regulations which can indeed be amended at will,

Now, they have a duty to make sure things balance and the system works so I don’t see it being something that is permanent, especially given that using 3 years of points is a nice selling feature that is used.

But, I don’t think they will be in any rush to eliminate it, especially since they are selling OTU points at $19/pt to owners who may be short,..which allows them to use up their points but not take rooms from members.

Thats a good point about the OTU points. I bet a lot more people will be using that now. Thanks

Yes. From the Home Resort Rules and Regulations:

3) Banking or Borrowing may be suspended or limited by DVC Operator from time to time in order to maintain a proper balance of Home Resort Vacation Points in the Club’s central reservation system.

Thank you

I read TIME TO TIME to mean as needed and not indefinitely. I think if Disney did this indefinitely , owners may have a real case against it.

However, those rules also say that they can be amended at any time, within DVCMs discretion...so that time to time language can be taken out just as easily.

Basically, all rules in the Home Resort Rules and Regulations are subject to change.

But I still think there will be major outrage if they kept this new policy for years.

I do agree with you, sometime in 2022 it will go back to normal.

I don't think there's any prospect of them doing this indefinitely, it's one of the major selling points tbh

I am sure, but the question was can they do it and the answer is yes.

One needs to understand that banking and borrowing are not guaranteed and while I do not think they would ever make it a permanent change...it’s a legal move

Honestly, it think that the last 3 years of the 2042 resorts will prevent any banking and borrowing.

I'm interested in more information about your take on this. I have a June UY at HHI, so I will get my last points in 2041. Are you thinking that say in 2038, I won't be able to borrow 2039 points? Or do you just think that I wouldn't be able to bank 2039 or borrow 2041 into 2040? I know this is a long way off, but I'm really curious in how this will all go down.

I'm also quite sure that there will be some banking & borrowing limitations in place for the last 2 or 3 years for the contracts ending on 1/31/2042. There won't be a full year of eligibility for any 2041 use year. They'll have to do something.

But it's still 20 years away. It's unlikely that we'll know anything for sure for several years. Doubt this is anywhere near the top of DVCMC's "to-do" list yet.
