Seems we got the BLT points as soon as they announced it, what about Grand CA villas?

We toured the models at DL last week when we bought AKV. DD is a CM and we got her discount. I tried like heck to get an answer out of our sales agent. I honestly think they don't know. We all just have to patiently wait.:upsidedow

Don't know if it's true, but someone posted that CA law requires the resort to be 90% complete before sales start. That will be a long time since they are still working on structure.

I pressed our guide hard on this issue last week when she called to tell us about BLT (as if we didn't already know, though, thanks to the DIS!)... anyway, she knows that we are definitely 100% interested in buying Grand Cali - she said it's looking like not until after the New Year. She said it could be as much as 6 months from now - if that's true, then sometime around March. We can hope for sooner, of course...

I was told the first of the year as well and that the resort should open around the same time as BLT (September 2009). He said that because the resort is so small, management expects it to sell out quickly-therefore, no need to have a long presale period...

ETA: My guide also said to expect much higher maintenance fees for VGC (which, I'm sure, suprises no one!)

Thanks for the info guys! I am totally anxious too from a curiousity perspective of how much we're going to have to spend to get a few nights there annually. However, having just bought into AKV the longer it takes the more time we have to save up the necessary cash. So from a practical perspective I want it to be as far from now as possible since the date of the opening of the resort won't change either way.

I'm sooooo curious though. And dreading the maintenence fees. One thing our guide shared with us - FWIW. We were looking at the points required to stay at the DLR hotels and she pointed to the GCH numbers and said there is no way the point requirements would be higher than that. I'm also encouraged by BLT's relatively lower price per point. They'll get their money somehow though and it doesn't help that people will be fighting to buy there. Sigh.

Only three more days until I get to see the models for myself.:goodvibes I'd be happy just to see a point chart so we can decide how many points we'll need. The wait seems to be forever!

Any idea why everyone is predicting the maintenance fees at VGC to be higher than other DVC resorts?

I can think of several reasons:

Property taxes in Southern California are probably higher than in Florida.
Labor costs for maintenance are higher.
Material costs are higher.
Utility costs are higher.

Other than that.....;)

We recently did the DVC Backstage Magic Tour, and it included a trip to see the mock-up villas, and some time hearing about them. Even the CMs out in California don't have a date when GCV will go on sale.

As BLT showed us, when you have premium room point charges, the dues will be lower. Similar dues spread over more points means less charge per point.

I would fully expect the VGC points to be premium values similar to BLT. If that's true, while the dues may be higher than BLT I can't imagine them being higher than the current $5 per point at BWV.

One thing VGC owners shouldn't be charged for is transportation. There are no buses or boats running at VGC. The budgets I have access to reflect charges of $.25 to $.41 per point for transportation at Florida resorts. That gives them a little padding (comparatively speaking) for other expenses which may be higher in CA.

I was told sales wouldn't start until 6 months before opening. So that would put it around spring of next year. Also, the guide I spoke with (when I was grilling him last year) said they are given only so much information on things due to the California disclosure laws. He basically said that if a question is asked that they know the answer to then they must disclose it. So they don't tell the guides until right before an announcement is made.
