GP Room Only chatter has been quiet recently...have we all lost hope for a GP RO discount to come out? Has anyone heard of any rumors since the "mid-August" hype? I'm getting antsy!!! :goodvibes

No rumors. No overtime for workers. Might be coming but probably not this week.

Actually 2 CMs said "the first week of Sept" which is arguably this week. But as of Friday, no Overtime reported so that's not particularly promising.

The AP discount did expire thus week, so maybe that means something.

Well, I would say that if there's going to be a fall room only code, it will happen either this week or next week at the very latest. My feeling is still you will see it, the dates will be broad, but availability will be limited. (A lot of resorts won't have availability.)

There is one this morning for canadians only though............ first thing I checked this morning ! Its a room only and of course doesn't help me with my dates since everything is full but it IS there

I have 2 questions for you:
1. What dates does it cover? I'm looking for 11/26-12/3

2. Do they usually offer the discounts for Canadians first? If so, how soon after do they offer it to the U.S.?

Thanks,
laurie:goodvibes

If the canadian RO is out this morning hopefully that means the US discount is coming any time now.

This morning I called for the Canadian discount (and yes, I am from Canada lol) and next to nothing is available for Nov 7-13. I could have switched to a bunk bed room at WL or to AKL. Nothing at any monorail resorts so it looks like I'm stuck paying rack rate.

The CM wasn't even aware there had been a Canadian discount issued as I was her first person requesting it so it couldn't have been massive numbers calling in this morning had depleted the supply of rooms by the time I had called. Not impressed.

Thank you both for the info:thumbsup2 Hopefully it will open up for the U.S. soon. I see there is still availability for my dates under free dining (seems like a lot is available) hopefully it will be the same with a room only:wizard:
Thanks again,
Laurie

That's surprising in that RO discounts don't usually have blackout dates. Here they're explicitly blacking out weekends/holidays. Also interesting that they're blacked out only for Values. Not that it really matters, as availability for those dates is minimal anyway. But This definitely continues the trend of more targeted discounts.

And the rates are pretty low. Only 30% for Deluxes instead of 35% or 40%.

I think it's reasonable to assume that the US discount, when it comes, will look the same. At these prices I may just go ahead and book Swan.

I stand corrected - DSis just pointed out that the RO earlier this year had these same rates for the Canadian discount but higher ones for the GP.

So there is hope. :goodvibes

I wish they'd get on with it so I can solidify my plans. :worship:Either switch to a mod with free dining, or keep deluxe w/ ro discount and add qsdp. Either way, it would be nice to know whether my current dining ressies need to be changed or not.

How exactly does the RO discount work? I remember when we booked in 09 - the discount came out, I called and they applied it to our reservations and credited the difference on our credit card.

Does the room you currently have need to be available in general now in order for it to apply...so you would be canceling your current room/package and then booking something new?

I hope I'm making sense! Like everyone else here, I've been stalking the discount forever and actually feel sick that we are going to have to pay full price since I assumed there would be a discount. Obviously, there was a chance there wouldn't be, but we went all out this time (it's my son's first visit) and now looking at the total we paid and expecting at least $600 off of that total - I'm feeling terrible for the amount of $$ we are spending.

So I'm guessing even if a US discount is released many of us probably won't even be able to take advantage of it unless we change our room type or hotel?

Yes; like any other discount, there is limited availability of each room type at each resort that's eligible for the RO discount. If the room you've booked is one that's eligible, they'll apply the discount to your reservation. Otherwise, you may have to modify your reservation. In fact, that's what I've had to do every time I've booked a RO discount - I've ended up upgrading to save money!

The way I understand it is this: There are a certain # of rooms/room types that are available with the discount. This is based on bookings, so your room type may not be available with the discount you may have to upgrade or downgrade to get the discount.
For example: I am currently booked at the Beach Club, garden view. If I wanted to book the free dining (I don't I want a room only) I would actually have to upgrade to a water view room for over $800 more since there is nothing available under the discount in either standard view or garden view.
Hope that has helped.
Laurie
