Any HHN Scareactors out there??

OK, we're all set with our ROF passes and have my DD14 assured that it's just like past years and she doesn't have to go into the Houses if she doesn't want to....

And now they tell me no safe zones! Ack! While I'm not complaining on a whole as that really ramps up the experience - it doesn't bode well for us. It'll be everything I can do to get her into the park when even the bathrooms aren't safe.

So, short of canceling our HHN tickets this year... if anyone out there happens to be a scareactor this year or in years past or just has lots of HHN years under their belt. I'd love a little inside spoiler information. Maybe more assurance that the scareactors really don't ever touch you... or if standing still is the best way to get the scareactors to move on. I'm up for any suggestions that empowers her to find the fun in the experience.

It's that or we'll be going the first night, making a beeline for Bill and Ted and forfeiting the other nights because I certainly don't want to torture her.... much.

i have no affiliation with UO or HHN.

but, will state that scareactors do not grab, push, touch the guests in the parks.

if your daughter is afraid of what will be in the parks during hhn, why not have her stay in the hotel room with one of the parents.
then go another night with the other parent staying with her.

i have seen entire families leave hhn due to someone in their group being unable to deal with it.

if the parents/adults swap out a night to stay with the teenager at the hotel, it might solve your problem without having to cancel your hhn visit.

That may be another way we go. She's already been there twice so she knows what to expect, but the no scare zones has her nervous. I figured I would try to get her confident about it. The two other people going with us are my BF and his son. His son is a year younger, but absolutely thrives on this stuff. He's been twice before too and just eats it up. I'm kind of hoping his bait and run mentality with drive all the monsters in his direction while she and I can then bolt and avoid.

But worst case yes I'm sure my BF would take a night off from HHN and stay with my daughter while I run amok in the park with his son. We'll have to see which is the worst of two evils in that case. A night of horror or a night without mom!

Tell her not to look or act scared. That is what worked for me. I get scared easily but I always act like if I am not and they don't prey on me as much as they prey on the people that look terrified.

This is exactly why I did. I learnt quickly if you do not react they won't mess with you as much.

Although in the houses my plan didn't work as well lol. I hid behind my 6ft2 hubby to be lol

This is the first year scareactors will be roaming everywhere. No one knows yet.

When we were at HHN16 I was soo scared...they prey on the scared. After a bit i just started taking pictures and hiding behind my camera and I was fine!

Actually, the first year we were there we walked through a section with a bunch of crazy chainsaw wielding monsters. One chased a woman into the bathroom - but he didn't follow her instead yelling "You gotta come out sometime!!!!" But this year it looks like the chainsaw wielders are women - they might just follow you in...

I'm sure if they DO actually enter the bathrooms, they'll at least stick with gender appropriate.

Thank you for the camera idea - I recall the rabbit from the Alice in Wonderland scarezone posed for me instead of coming after me. My DD likes the idea of being the family photographer for the night.

jmho while i think the idea of getting jumped anywhere by scareactors is intriguing; i doubt U's legal beagles will sign off on bathroom interaction...just too much room for interpretation (for lack of a better term).

Anytime a park/event advertises "no safe zones," it is always an exaggerated attempt at marketing. I'm sure there will be areas where it will be "safe" with minimal exposure to actors/scares. And by going off of Howl-o-Scream's use of roaming hordes, I would assume they shouldn't be too hard to avoid, it'll just actors wandering around a set area scaring. IMO, the roaming scarezones eliminate elaborate scarezones of the past which saddens me.

But again...... we won't fully know until the event kicks off.

Shops, rides, bathrooms, and restaurants are all "safe" zones.

And scareactors will never touch you.

Me, however, I get messed with. Usually because they know me.

I like the completely whacked out idea of walking into a bathroom and having a scare actor there...but I understand the danger in it. I could see someone slipping on the tile or accidentally freaking out and running into a door or a chainsaw...I know there isn't a blade but it still isn't good. This is gonna be my first year doing it in Orlando, and I can't help but wonder how different it is gonna be.

The easiest way to not be bothered is to not act scared.

Just remember its their job to try to scare you. If you act scared, they'll keep it up. If for no other reason, than for the enjoyment of all of us watching

My wife and I just don't scared. Perhaps startled at times, but that's about it. It's hard to be scared when you know nothing is real. It's also a lot of fun to just watch those that are scared

Easier said than done. When we first went I WAS scared and couldn't act any other way. Now after years of going I don't scare as easily but they usually get me a few times.

Worst scare ever - we were in a house walking and my husband was in front of me. I was freaking out at every turn because the shock element was getting me. I said to my husband with my face in his back..."no, no, no! Almost immediately a voice RIGHT in my ear said, "yes, yes, yes!"
