So yesterday, about 5 hours before I was having a houseful of company for my son's birthday, I discover that the birthday boy (3) has peed through his diaper onto my couch while he was sleeping. :sad2: The fact that he took a nap at all is shocking, but I figured, "great, let him sleep while I clean."

Anyway, the problem is I had my couches professionally cleaned by Sears last summer and scotchguarded. I know you're not supposed to use any sort of cleaning solution on it b/c it takes off the scotchguard. My friend said I could use part water/part baking soda to neutralize the odor. I did that, along with febreeze and lysol, but I still faintly smell it, and am skeeved. I wanted to wait until later in the year to have them professionally cleaned again b/c it's so expensive, $200 +, so was looking for interim advice, if there is any...

Other than the obvious, don't let the kid fall asleep on the furniture after he's drank a lot and not gone to the bathroom.

And, luckily, no one sat on that part of the couch :cool1: !

Nature's Miracle!!!! ::yes:: This stuff is fabulous in getting cat pee out.....and we ALL KNOW that there is no worse smell than cat pee. ;) :)

Oh...and I have used it on my leather (with scotch guard) couch and loveseat.

Second the nature's miracle. You get it at pet stores.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm just wondering if that will screw up the scotchguarding - although who am I kidding, I guess I'd rather screw up that than deal with the smell.

oh, sorry, tiggersmom2, just noticed you said you used it on scotchguarded couch. Thanks!

Can you unzip the cover to the cushion? Some couches you can. Then you could rub baking soda all over it and stick it in the dryer for a few minutes. That worked for a friend of mine.

I posted a thread almost identical to this a few weeks back. My dog had peed on the couch while I was asleep so it had soaked in as well and unfortunately my couch cushions are sewn into the couch. Well after spraying down that area with nature's miracle three separate times, febreeze and just scrubbing with water the smell is gone. Just keep scrubbing and spraying!

My daughter did this twice to our scothcguarded couch while potty training and we unzipped the cover, washed down the actual cushion with water, scrubbed the cover inside and out with water, sprayed it with Febreze and the smell was gone.

I like Simple Solution, available at any pet store. As for the Scotchguard. Just buy a can at Home Depot and reapply it to the area according to the instructions. It works fine.

I use in vinegar in a spray bottle for my couches and chairs. I also "hide" cups (plastic, not styrofoam) of vinegar around my house. We own many pets and the vinegar helps pull odors out of the room. I also use vinegar in my mop water.
