any help for a drowned iPod touch?

Honestly, if it's dead, I'd totally soak it in water with the battery out. I'd change the water a few times, and I'd use distilled water (less than $1 for a gallon at the grocery store) so you don't have any hard water residue when you let it dry out. If it's dead, it couldn't hurt to try. :confused3

Never use water!! Use alcohol as it will clean and displace any trapped water between and under small components.

I dropped my iphone in the toilet and my son's ipod touch went through the washing machine. We used the rice method on both of them and they both work. The time/date on my son's ipod doesn't work correctly, but everything else does.

Rice and a ziplock! The best Advice... Don't turn it on for atleast 5 days... to make sure its totally dried out! My daughter threw up on hers! :scared1:
Goodluck!

ROFL ROFL we had the SAME THING happen to a Gameboy!! DS fell asleep playing it & threw up during the night - ON the Gameboy!!!

OMG I thought I was the only one that disgusting things like that happen too!!

You may want to get a Squaretrade warranty when you buy kids (even some big kids ;) ) electronics. They have good prices to begin with - last week all their warranties were 30% off - so you can often get an even better deal.

They pay out too. My son sat on my Kindle. I was covered because I had accident insurance on it. Instead of paying $300 for a new Kindle, I had a squaretrade check to cover $250 of it. Much less painful for me and my son. :thumbsup2

Did the rice work on your son's itouch? Hope so.

I dropped my palm cell phone in the toilet at work. Thankfully it fell out as I was getting ready to go. I stuffed into a bag of rice overnight and it drew all the water out. I took the battery out right away and wrapped it in bounty paper towels (all the parts). This helped suck some moisture out. When I got home it went right into the rice and it has been just fine ever since.

well the rice is not working...however, I just found out that it was submerged a week ago and he turned it on right away too. So, not too happy with my son right now:(

is it out of warranty? If not it couldnt hurt to call apple. My sons quit working within the first year. I called apple...............sent it back and received a new one at no cost. After that i purchased the warranty! By the way..............they didnt ask any questions.....

Doesn't work -- wet is outside of warranty. There's a red line that appears in the microphone jack when it gets wet.

DS washed his in the washing machine -- never worked again.

I dropped my touch in water and it was submerged for at least 5 minutes before I noticed! I put it in a ziplock bag with rice and placed it under a light bulb, that I use to warm my turtle ( I think it's a 40 or 60 watt). Everything works on it, but the date sometimes is off. I wouldn't give up on the rice. It took a couple of days for it to dry out. You will notice condensation in the bag, from the water coming out.:)

This was just on the Today Show a few weeks ago. They said to remove the battery, use your blow dryer (on the low cool setting) on the battery, and to put the phone or Ipod or whatever in a bowl of rice and cover it completely for a day or two.
Regarding the blow dryer, the coworker I mentioned in the other post was told not to do that..something about the blow dryer forcing the water further in there..she was told to use the vaccum. But, being that I've never had this happen yet(knock wood) I can't say personally which is better.

Can anyone tell me why your not supposed to try and charge a phone that might have gotten wet?
Long story but I will try and shorten.
I spent a few hours at the beach while in FL last week, from about 3 to 7pm, not during the hottest time of the day. Phone was in the car but it was humid that day and I had all the windows shut. when I got home I tried to call home and the phone would not turn on. I thought the battery needed to be charged.
Plugged the phone into the charger and the phone kept saying "charger not compatible with phone." Finally charged it the next day but the phone would not work except for the 3,6 and 9 keys.
Put the phone in rice for 2 days, thinking it might have gotten moisture in it fron the humidity, nothing...
Called the phone co. phone was 31 days old at this point so out of warranty, and of course no insurance.
The moisture sensor was white but I touched it (remember, it was very humid) and the bottom turned pink. The lady then said I had exposed the phone to moisture and they wouldn't even look at it at the repair shop. I took it in anyhow and they wouldn't open it even though the guy could see that only the bottom of the moisture sticker was pink where I had touched it, the top was still white.
I think the phone might have gotten some humidity inside and when I tried to charge it the insides got messed up. Or maybe the heat, although I didn't turn on the phone until it had cooled down and it really wasn't that hot in the car, maybe 90 degrees at the highest.
I am at a loss now. The guy who sold me the phone told me to put my son's chip inside the phone since he has insurance on his line. but what will happen when they send me a new phone and I send that one back? Will they charge us if they see the moisture sticker is pink? Anyone know....

I don't know anything about silica gel, but I do know that rice DOES work. We left a metronome outside overnight in the pouring down rain. Seriously, it poured for like 12 hours. We picked up the device and literally poured water out of it. Just for kicks, we put it in rice "just to see." It totally worked!!

There are some really good suggestions. For what it is worth, both rice and Silica Gel will work. Most people do not have Silica Gel on hand but they do have rice. Silica Gel produces less dust than rice, which makes it preferable when trying to dry out electronics. It also absorbs better than rice. But if you are in a pinch with a wet electronic and no Silica Gel, rice will get you by!

There are several places that you can get Silica Gel (which might not be a bad idea with summer coming and lots of poolside hours ahead) both online and in "the real world." Just googling "Silica Gel packets" will get you a long list of online vendors.

My husband's phone went through the wash and was saved by throwing it in a bag of Silica Gel for 48 hours. I had it on hand because I use it to dry flowers and figured hey, it might dry a phone!

Best of Luck!

my son just washed his net10 pay by minute phone on our disney trip. we didnt have rice so tried cheerios. the phone lit up but never really came back on. he now has it in rice since we return.
anyone know how to transfer the remaining minutes to a new phone?
we never signed online with it or anything, as it was brand new. Tho the clerk at the store did something to turn it on.
