I have used in the past pocket hungry hippo, connect four, etc. Anyone seen any new ones out? I've tried looking at Walmart, but not finding anything that gets my interest. Kids don't have portable video games and don't want to invest in them this year. Spending a total of 5-6 hours of flying, airport time. Taking mp3 players, dvd player, usual small toys, treats, coloring books...

I am only hopping on to add maybe some trip journals, books or books on CD or loaded into the mp3. Also, the magnetic playsets are fun and easy to pack. Maybe the little aqua doodle kits or good old fashioned tic tac toe, hangman. The Hightlights Hidden Playground magazines are a lot of fun as well. Sorry to say, this may be the longest 5-6 hours of your life!!!!

My kids love Blokus, and there's a travel version now. Target carries both the home and travel version.

I know!!! LOL...Luckily we are leaving on a 6 am flight so hopefully the little ones will sleep till the first layover, only have one each way...but yes it will be! I think driving is easier, able to stop anytime, but flying...we will just make it the best we can.

How old are your kids?

I love travel Trouble! I'm not sure if it's still available -- and one downside, my son could not push the "bubble" until he got much older -- it is very hard (at least ours is).

If your kids are older, we love bowling dice. It wouldn't be one for the airplane ride itself -- you actually roll 10 dice (like the pins). But, it would be great at an airport during a layover. It's basically like you are bowling, just with dice. I learned how to score bowling from that game.

How about a package of pipe cleaners (aka chenille stems)? They can be turned into lots of things with some imagination! Or make some finger puppets in advance (you could take the stuff to make them on board, but the glue could be an issue...) and let them put on little puppet shows.

We also do something we call "Squiggles", where I (or DH) draw squiggles or geometric shapes (or a combination of both) on a piece of paper (or sometimes we'll do 2 or more on a sheet) and the kids have to add to the drawing to make it actually "be something". Hard to describe what I mean, but for example, a single zigzag line can become a dragon's back, etc. It's amazing what the kids can come up with! You could make a whole pad of these.

Oh, and Blokus is great! I may have to pick up the travel version! :thumbsup2

I can't remember where I bought anything LOL!

But I did find some magnetic dress up dolls that I bought for my younger one. I also found magnetic checkers and magnetic tic tac toe which the girls enjoyed.

I carried crayons, coloring books and one of those educational brain teaser games for their age group.

Amazon might give you some ideas. Here is there search on travel games: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_t...as=toys-and-games&field-keywords=travel+games

They are 20 dd, 12 dd, 6 dd, 4 ds...love the idea. We have an hour layover in MN and that would be a good thing to do....I will go gather up the dice from all the board games..LOL

I like that idea too. Have a package of multi color pipe cleaners in the closet. Do you think they would have an issue with them as they have metal in them? I am going to look for this Blokus game, everyone talks about it. Thanks for the idea.
I do know about the squiggle thing, my mom used to do that with us...came up with some wild things..LOL

I love the stuff on Amazon. I have a ton of cardstock, going to make our own cutouts for the sewing cards, make them disney character shapes...I will have to go to target this week and hunt down some travel magnetic games. I failed on this part, should have looked sooner, could have it ordered sooner..since today is 10 days, but today is almost done (7:44 am) LOL and so today doesn't count and really tomorrow is pretty much gone too, so we are down to 9 days, but was thinking that a week from today I will pretty much have everything packed up so we have 7 days to go!! LMAO

Oops! I should clarify about Bowling Dice. It's actually a game you buy -- the 10 dice aren't normal dice. Each one has some sides that have pins, some sides that are blank, some that have X for strike, some that have / for spare. There's a certain number of each. It also includes a scorepad -- just like the screens at the bowling alley scoring. I bought mine at Meijer. Target might sell it though -- I'd check there.

You might try making your own though. Although it might be cheaper to buy the ready-made one instead of "retro-fitting" your own dice. (If you're like me, time = money!)

Target sells a trivia question set for different age levels. Not sure the name of it but it is in the toy department on the educational aisle.

Honestly, I don't know as I haven't tried to board a plane with them. They'd make a pretty wimpy weapon...but I guess you never know. :confused3 Sorry, hopefully someone who knows more will weigh in.
