Has anybody got any great airfares from NYC into MCO for August 2010 yet??? Or rental cars?
I'm looking also. American's prices keep fluctuating and JetBlue's prices aren't that great.
Jet Blue wants $320 from Newark to Orlando for my dates.
You're looking way too far out. I don't really even look at fares until about 180 days out (exception being Christmas/Thanksgiving weeks).
I like to book early. This way, I get the flight times I want and I don't have to worry about it. Makes life easier for mePlus, I'm OCD like that

I book early. I find that they always go up in price. We need 9 tickets total 8/13 to 8/21 (we are going on a cruise). Maybe when AirTran opens up they will have better prices?
I always book the flights early and for me, they never come down, only go up.

The further you book out, you do realize the more chances you have that your flight times will change, right? In this volatile market, make sure you understand your flight times will probably change.
The reason I mention 180 days is because most of the lower-cost airlines do not release their schedules further then 180 days out (refer back to changing flight times - this allows them to keep a more consistent schedule when released). The lower-cost carriers often trigger lower costs on the other airlines. Again, there are exceptions including holiday weeks/weekends and airports that are not serviced by any of the lower-cost airlines (ie. JetBlue, Southwest, Airtran, etc).
For me, I booked 4 Continental flights year, right when the fares opened up, and the prices never came down. Two of the flights, the times change, but only by a few minutes.
You are very fortunate, this is not a general case (coming from someone who travels A LOT).

If you can be flexible with your dates you can probably get better deals. JetBlue just released their fares yesterday for the summer, and we were planning a 10-night trip from Sat-Tues, but found that it was most expensive to fly on Saturday, so we switched stuff around to fly Thursday and Monday. So now our trip is 11 nights and the $ we saved on airfare will more than pay for an extra night at the resort.
JetBlue flies direct to Orlando from White Plains and Newark (maybe JFK?). The fares vary pretty widely depending on the day of the week. We are paying $89 on the flight down and $99 on the way back. Airtran usually has the lowest fares but you have to pay $15 for the first bag/person each way, plus an extra fee (I think also $15/person/flight) if you want an assigned seat. Boarding to Orlando is a disaster usually because of all the unassigned seats and children have to be with adults, etc. Plus they change their schedules very frequently. And they haven't released their fares for summer yey, only booking through June 16. I think I'm paying a few $$ more on JetBlue, but I don't have to worry about the extra stuff and now it's just done.
Good luck and keep us posted what you find!
I book on JB early knowing that there fares will drop (I fly out of JFK on non-holidays times) so that I can get the credit for future travel - but I would not book this early for an August 2010 flight. I would wait until February/March to start looking for August.
