Any GOOD things to say about Coral Reef?

It seems like everything I read about Coral Reef is negative lately - most worrying is that several people have posted that they were ill after eating there. DH really wants to try CR during our upcoming June trip, and I am trying to accomodate everybody with my ADRs (DD wants WCC; DS wants Chefs de France or Tuto Italia; I want to try Biergarten and DH wants to try CR).

The menu at CR doesn't really thrill me - I like fish, but it seems so limited. I now we could all find something to eat, but I don't want to spend the rest of the night yakking...ya know?

I'm thinking of maybe just going for drinks and/or dessert. What do ya'll think?

We ate there 2 years ago....and thankfully did not get ill. Were we thrilled, absolutely not. It was just okay for us-not horrible, but not good enough for us to want to do it again. I think we would have enjoyed it more if we had been seated closer to the tank....but the food would have still been just okay.

Ate there the end of January, loved the caesar salad, the sauteed grouper was awesome the best butterscotch creme brulee ever

Oh and I will add, that night my 6 year old niece was very ill, for hours!...could be a coincidence or maybe whatever she ate at CR made her ill.

IMO the food was good, not great and not worth the price for such small potions. Atmosphere was ok as well. It is something to do once. Would I go back? No

We are reading different posts. I've been reading lots of positive reviews of Coral Reef. We ate lunch there in 2007, ate everything they put in front of us and that includes a somewhat picky 5yo. We loved our meal there and would certainly return.

I wasn't thrilled with the food choices. I enjoy some seafood but very little of what they had on the menu even sounded good. I was more interested in the view of the tank. It was just two of us and they sat us right next to the tank. That was fabulous!

We had a very nice meal there in December 2007. I had the Creamy Lobster soup for an appetizer and it was ok/good. Not as good as the Lobster Bisque at the Yachtsman Steakhouse. Dh had the Caesar Salad which was good. For his entree DH had the Blackened Catfish and he absolutely loved it. Mind you this is NOT something my hubby would have ordered. He is very one note when it comes to food but he still talks about that meal now, lol. I had Crab legs but I don't see them on the menu now. They were good. For dessert we had the creme brulee and Jack Daniel's mousse. On the old dining plan that was definitely too much food for us! I also prefer to have the appetizer over the dessert. Most of the time we were too full for dessert by the time we ate the mea. That is another topic though.

We had a table right up against the aquarium and it was a nice night!

We ate there last April and enjoyed it. My boyfriend felt that the portions were too small and I agree that his appetizer most definitely was (the surf and turf one --- think two pieces of shrimp, two small pieces of beef). My entree was the pork and very big. We had a seat right next to the tank. I did enjoy the food, but it was not the #1 restaurant for us. We like Narcoossee's much better. We do plan to return though. I loved the moussee dessert!

We love CR, and that includes both the atmosphere and the food. . We've been there twice, and both times sat by the tank. DS's were both in their teens at the time, and they really enjoyed the experience. It was one of our favorite restaurants, and DH and I have ADRs for our up-coming trip to eat there again. I've read some other very positive reviews here about CR.

I highly doubt that Disney is going to allow a restaurant to operate where people are consistently becoming ill afterwards.

The Land & Sea appetizer is good. That's it.

To the poster who said that they had only been reading good reviews of CR, you just posted on my thread where I blasted CR, so you have read atleast one negative review of the restaurant. :lmao:

We ate there in 2005 and then again in 2007. When we were there the first time we LOVED the place, our server was the best that we had all week and the food was awesome. When we went the second time our server was not so great, she was o.k., but not like the one we had 2 years before. The menus had changed, so they didn't have what we ordered before (which I LOVED) so I settled for something else that was just alright. We are going back to the World in a couple of weeks and I decided that I wanted to try out something else. Will we go there again ? Maybe or maybe not, I guess it will depend on our moods when I go to make the ADRs. As for now, there is a whole new world, so to speak, to try out in WS.

My DS8 and I ate at Coral Reef last August for lunch. It was fine, DS liked his pizza(and he is fussy. I had fish (I think tilapia), over a salad. It was very good--so was the bread. The atmosphere is nice too. No complaints.

Our family ate at Coral Reef for dinner in October 2008. We all enjoyed our meal. Server was fabulous. We did get a table on the lower level and the children really enjoyed the tank. I had the Mahi Mahi and the Chocolate Wave. Both were yummy!!! Don't remember what DH had, but I know he enjoyed it. We were allowed to make a few changes to the children's menu offered. We did have the diver and personalized menus which added to the night. I am so sad that they aren't doing those anymore. I would not hesitate to eat here again.....

We ate there last week and it was absolutely awful! Ranks with some of the worst restaurants I've ever eaten at, not just at WDW!
I just did a review including CR, see 3 pescetarians review on the review board.
We will never go back. It's too bad too because with that location it could be really cool! But we had a terrible table too without a view of the tank (well, my 6'3 husband could see but the rest of us couldn't).

We have eaten there twice (Sept 2007 and Dec 2008). We had a great experience both times. My children (4 and 6) LOVE the creamy lobster soup there and will eat 2 full bowls each. They (including my DH) prefer the CR lobster soup over the Yachtman's lobster bisque.

I know it gets poor reviews here, but we have no compliants.

Well-I have to say it was my family's favorite. I liked it better than LeCellier. Everyone has their own opinion. We've ate there twice & will be returning. I had the steak & chocolate wave both times. Wonderful! I've read negative reviews but we had a great dinner both times. I've also read great reviews on LeCellier but our food was terrible. I guess everyone has different experiences & tastes.
