I was wondering if any of you knew of a good site that makes the cool style medical alert bracelets for kids. You know the kind that have the cool style bracelets with the cars or frogs or whatever on them...

I am going to get my son a silver bracelet but also wanted to find a sports style bracelet that he could wear and wouldn't mind wearing for special occasions.

Does anyone have and use a sports style for their child? Do they hold up ok?

TIA

This site has nice medical alert bracelets for kids, I can't attest to their durability, but they have lots of neat designs.

I got my son's at ekaccess.com - I chose them because you can cram a LOT of information on them and they don't charge extra for each word. It says its a diabetic site, but you can get whatever you want on the bracelet. My son has ASD. We got a sports band. PM me if you would like a picture.

These look really nice. One thing to keep in mind is that Medic Alert brand bracelets have an 800 phone number. I like that because not all info fits on most bracelets. With that brand you can have MD contact info, medical condition info, and all allergies. There's a 24 hour monitoring number.

So, one thing to consider is purchasing the Medical Alert service and using a bracelet from another place with prettier bracelets.

I know this isn't the same thing...

But what I did with DS was to make him a dog tag. He won't wear a bracelet and we needed something "boy". Oldest DS is going thru a military "phase" (except he's been on it for about 3 years now so I don't think it's a phase) and he wanted a *real* dog tag. They sell them at the Wal-Mart here, an engraving machine where you can tell it what to write, cost us $5.

Youngest DS saw it, and of course as the little brother insisted on having one also. It just has his name, 'autism', and my cell number. I know in a medical emergency it won't do much since they wouldn't really be looking for it, but if he's lost he does know to show someone his dog tag.

It depends on what your needs are, I guess.

I have a very active insulin dep. diabetic, 12 yo water loving, fish boy who hates the metal id's- he wears a braclet from this company. They have different kinds of id- chains and so on. They also cover other disabilities- look for the link at the top of the page-

They have a few choices- not much for information- on the braclets but the diabetic braclet is all that he needs - he also has asthma but the diabetes is a hidden disability- these are like the Lance Armstrong ones- rubber- water proof and reasonably priced-

-he has several types- camo, black, navy and so on- he wears the red, white, and blue one on July 4th and Memorial day! He matches his id to his cloths for the day-:lmao: I buy the one with the inprinted info that is colored in to bring the information to light.

HTH someone!

I was told by a couple EMTs that they don't tend to notice the medical alert bracelets that are the sports-type and other types that vary from the normal (ugly) ones. They are working in an emergency, so don't take the time to look at a person's jewelry unless it is obviously a medical alert bracelet.

So, just a warning if you or your child wears a non-standard (good-looking, LOL!) medical alert bracelet.

Thank you everyone for the great links!

Ms Butterfly ~ Thanks for the info. My Aunt told me the same thing. I think I will definatly buy the *ugly* kind first and foremost . Then maybe I will buy a sports one for my son just to get him to be ok with the idea as well.

I have another question now though . Is it best to buy stainless steel , silver , or gold? I would think gold would be the best and silver second and stainless steel; last. BUT it says on the sites order form that silver and gold tend to scratch so you might want to order a stainless steel for anything where you would be pretty active ( which with a child is always !) . Now should I just order stainless steel then? That wont turn his wrist green will it?

I know my questions might be silly but I knew you guys would know best . Thanks everyone!

Gold is a soft metal. I wouldn't recommend it for a kid active in sports and such, as it could be bent and fall off (and lost).

I can't recall about the hardness rating of silver, but I'm sure you can look it up online.

Stainless steel will not turn him green. Only cheap, fake stuff does that! :) SS is what your daily eating utensils (fork, knife, spoon) are made of.

My dd has ASD, ADHD, and Epilepsy. We get her bracelet from Medic Alert. They have now updated the ugly looking ones to include where you can choose what color you want the design to be (not just red). My dd loved this since she has had the plain one for a couple of years. She picked out the neon green color and doesn't complain so much about wearing it. She also has a sports one (from them too) that she wore when she was in karate, but otherwise we never take hers off.

I just received an order for bracelets for DD. Here is the site: www.design-a-band.com My daughter is 16, so the styles here appealed to her. They have alot of colors, and lots of clip art available. It is important to have the medical symbols on them.

We ordered the silicone "live strong" type, in several colors. You have a choice of many different medical alert symbols. We got the colored filled, so it would not wear off, but it would be clearly visible. What I love, is that I could put some info on the outside (in her case "Coumadin"), plus the words INFO INSIDE. Then inside, you can put 4 lines of information. Inside I put her name, primary medical condition, and hone and cell phone numbers.

The ones I got came out to be about $11/each. It is cheaper per bracelet to order more, but I ordered 4 different colors, a few of each color. So, if one is misplaced, or the dog gets it, we are covered!

I have no connection to this vendor.

If you want custom work done with your own Font and charms or what not added on, I have seen some awesome ones on Etsy.

Just go to the site and then at the top there is a SEARCH BOX

Use the Drop Down Box for HANDMADE ITEMS: TAGS, TITLES and then type in:

MEDICAL ALERT BRACELETS

It should bring up about 100 matches. At least it did when I searched :)

It's a great site selling all handmade goods, I got a necklace stamped (engraved) with my kids names on it many shops do wonderful work!
