Help....I have decided to start potty training my DD (27 months). I think that she is ready, now (she sees her big brother and kids at Parents Morning Out doing it and wants to, also). My first kid was potty trained at day care...but I am a SAHM now...so, I have no help!

Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

THANKS!
BETH

My son is the same age and shows some interest in the potty. We let him sit on it when he asks and make a big deal if he does anything in it. Just follow her lead.

Here's what worked with my DD (although she was a little older than yours, about 32 or 33 months):

We had been trying the "Pull-Ups" thing for a while...those don't work!! The kids think they're just big diapers. Well, one evening I put regular underwear on her & just said, "You're going to wear "big girl" undies from now on. Well she wet herself while playing in the living room. She HATED the feel of it, & from that moment on, she was dry all of the time. She never wanted to feel wet again.

Somehow, when both of my children potty-trained, they also started staying dry at night at the same time as well.

I agree if you are both ready, just go cold turkey. We did with our DS at just short of 2 and it was so easy. Put on the underwear and do not look back. i think that 2 is easier than 3 because they are less independent and most of the time still want to please mommy. i agree that pull ups are not helpful to kids training. i used less than one package ever ,using them only for sunday during very early training when he had those really tough to get off clothes, and when he was sick wth an upset tummy.

I am potty training one of my twin ds (30 months). Like I did with my two dds, I just went cold turkey. I dont use pull ups because they are no different than diapers. I had a big block of time over xmas vacation that I could devote to potty training so I did it.

I think you just have to stay committed to it. It has been a long week for all of us. It is hard not going too many places, but it has worked. I started a week ago and he has not had an accident in two days. I even took him to the mall yesterday and he was fine. Now the real test is today when I have to take my other two to the bus stop three times and then gymnastics, etc. Lets see how he does today.

Stay positive and use rewards. I potty trained my dds at 28 months and they we super easy. One day of accidents and that was it! Much easier them my ds. Good luck! I still have to train my other ds. I could not do two at once without losing my mind.

I am potty training my DD now... started kinda late - I started Thanksgiving week, and she will be 3 this coming Feb, but everything went great... in the beginning. I used the pull-ups, and for me they are great. We told her that they were big girl panties, and that she couldn't go potty in them, and she was fine with that and never had any accidents, but it was just precautionary for when we went out to the mall, ect. She always wears real big girl panties in the house, and when we go over to family.
My problem is now, she is freaking out and throwing horrible fits about going on the "big girl" potty (we had been using a little Dora potty at home). I think what happened, is she was fine using them out, like at the mall or relatives, but some of the public BR's have automatic flushers, and they would flush while she was still on it, and that has now scared her. As we speak, I have told her that her little Dora potty is out, and she has no choice but to go on the big girl potty in the house. I have assured her that I would NOT flush the potty, and that everything will be fine, but she is still throwing fits and throwing herself on the bathroom floor screaming... not quite sure what to do now. Any suggestions? I feel like a prisoner in my own home since I cannot go out!

I just wanted to say how you use pull-ups makes a big difference on your view of them. Pull-ups themselves do not help train kids. But, they are a help in the fact that kids can get them on and off by themselves. I do also think you NEED to get the feel wet kind so they get the same feelings as they do from underware/panties, but you don't have the same mess to clean up.

There are two potty training in a day books out there. One is geared to the older child 2 1/2-4 years and one is great for little and older kids. Unfortunately, I do not know the exact title of either. I'm sure if you google and find reviews you'll figure it out. The one geared to the older child is the "newer" book. The first actually takes like 2-3 days to work.

She Did It! So Excited - Now Shes A Super Bigger Bigger Girl! I Think She Will Be Ok Now - Prob Still Scared To Go On Public Pottys Right Now, But As Far As Going At Home And Grandparents Homes, Shes Good To Go! Happy Dance!

throw some post-it notes in your purse and when you are at a public bathroom just cover up the sensor.

bribery.

We potty trained each boy (I have three) in one day (per kid).

Loaded them up with salty food, and lots of drinks. tried every 15 minutes. got a m&m or small cookie when they went. Yippie kid! lots of excitement.

That's it. They figured it out. No pullups, just underwear.

good luck to you!

My DS is 33 months and he shows no interest at all. He is very stubborn, so I have a feeling that it is not going to be easy for me. :lmao: But I think I will try next month when I take a week off from work.
