I've started looking at airfares again and haven't seen anything under $200. Our trip isn't until Nov 2003 but I've gotten some really good fares (lowest was $111 rt) in the past, are they still out there sometime? What's the best you've found lately?

If you find anything, let me know :D I have been looking for months and I can't find anything for June for under $245!!! Yikes, looks like we might be driving this trip :(

The best fare I have ever gotten was $172 rt from Houston Hobby to MCO with SWA. I dont really think I'll find anything any lower than that.

Just got roundtrip on American Non-stop for $161 yesterday for trip the first week of June on Hotwire. That was by far the best price I had found out of Dallas. Nabbed it.

I found airfare for the middle of March for 186.00 about 2 weeks ago. This was on Delta. The fares are changing everyday. I got lucky finding that fare. I had checked for about a month and never found anything below 200.00 and was fixing to use Hotwire. They had fares for 202.00 but thought I would check one more time and found the 186.00. The next day I check back at Delta for the same flight and the fare was 276.00. It has jumped several times but seem to be consistantly staying around 216.00. Just keep checking and if you see a cheaper airfare grab it. It won't last long!!!!

We have resigned to driving for our July trip.
We just got back in Dec. and got RT NS Delta fr $156.00. We have in past years gotten as low as $114.00 for same flight.
There will be 6 of us this trip so driving it will be......

Speaking of driving from Dallas (Plano) to Orlando (YIKES is right!!)... does anyone have any suggestions? If airfare continues to stay $$$, we are also debating driving on our next trip.

So what I am asking is... do you drive all the way through (isn't it about 24 hours????) or do you stop along the way? And if you do stop.. any suggestions on places to stay overnight? Etc.

Thanks in advance!

Penscola(sp?) is 10 hrs. driving straight through. We drove there about 6 yrs ago and only stopped to get gas. I would look at cities along the gulf coast and then go to priceline to get a hotel room. You can save alot for a place just to sleep. I think that Orlando is about a 20 hr drive so Penscola is about 1/2 way.

We are spending the night before we leave at my MiL's at Wills Point (East of Dallas). At crack o' dawn (5 am'ish) we are leaving and driving to Pensacola or Destin. We are hoping to get there early enough to play at the beach for a few hours. Next morning we are driving rest of the way to Orlando.
We will definitely be using the Priceline option for hotel rooms. Being as we are going mid-July we probably will not find a ton of bargains. If gas prices do not go down I will have to add a couple hundred more into the travel budget for our Yukon XL.
All of this for a hotter that **** month w/ lots of rain and Tour groups. This may be the last time we go in July!

We went last June and drove straight through from Fort Worth.
It was my DH and I driving. I made it a little past Shreveport and he drove the rest of the way. It took us 20 hours. Going was not so bad, but coming back we were pooped! LOL I'm planning on staying in a hotel on the way back to break up the drive after a week of fun in the sun we were exhausted!

Still cheaper than flying and renting a car for a week and the Toyota rides smooth so it's definitely worth it to us. We leave on Friday and Stay Saturday to Saturday.

We will be driving from west Fort Worth, leaving May 31, about 3 or 4 am. We are going through New Orleans and spending one night there. N.O. is about 600 miles from here and only another two or three hours to Florida. We love New Orleans and can't wait to spend a day there. I'm not sure yet what we'll do on the way back, though. Whatever we do, it'll be an adventure, I'm sure!

we drive from dallas to pensacola the first day then down to Orlando the next. It's not much fun to arrive to pooped to party. On the way home, we leave Orlando about 6am and drive to New Orleans then spend the night before coming home. It's a long, lonesome stretch of road twixt Shreveport and Baton Rouge and I don't like it at night. SHudder...all that Spanish moss hanging from the trees in the mist. Right out of an Anne Rice book.

Cool! I can't wait!

My sister was able to get 84.00 rt when she went with us and her boyfriend is the low airfare finder! Let me know and I'll get him to watch for you. The rate Sue had only last about and hour and a half and poof it was gone!

They've been going up this week but I think it's because of the gas prices. Hopefully a good deal will come up.

When did they buy the $84 rt? Has that been recent? I know there were some really good fares that's why I hate to pay over $200.

Driving isn't an option for us, really don't think we'd survive the trip  My DH tolerates our Disney trips and is going on this one, 4 days in the car and we might never get him there again.

I never seem to get anything below $250, but I fly from Killeen to DFW usually. Prices have been steadily going up.

We drive from Lawton and OKC Ok (2 vans). We leave right after work, to Tyler to camp for the night That is about 300 miles for us. The next morning we get up early (leave about 8 am) drive to Destin. Stay on the beach for two nights. By the way, Destin is about 600 or 700 miles from Tyler, Tx. Then off to Orlando, about 8 hours away.

Our first trip was staight to Orlando, never again. The next two trips we stopped at Pensicola, much better. Then I discovered Destin Beach. Two nights is not really long enough, We are well rested and already vacationing before we get to Orlando. I can hardly wait.

The only part of the drive we hate is the traffic in Dallas. In the past we took 635 loop. I have been told it is worth the extra miles to go towards Fort Worth to catch 20 east. I will be coming from Wichita Falls and hubby will be coming from OKC. We will both be in the area around 230 pm and 6pm any ideas?

Tigger

There is a $154 fare showing for United right now. Not for my dates of course but someone might be able to use it. They are usually not very good flights.

tigger - 2:30pm won't be bad but 6pm would. I don't think going to FT Worth would buy you much from OKC but might be an option from Wichita Falls. You can use 190 now instead of 635 but it is a tollway, you'll also have to work out how to get to 20 from there. I'm north of Dallas and not real familiar with what would be best to get from 190 to 20.

Coming into north Ft. Worth in late afternoon is not much fun. Try to get there before 4:00 and the promblems are a lot less. You can can take Loop 820 east from north ft. worth and take it to I-20 or drive through the downtown area on I-35 south and hit I-20 (Loop 820) on the southside of ft. worth. Depending on the traffic either one could be fine. Loop 820 can get very congested in late pm in the north ft. worth. Meet at the 7-11 or other restuarants in the area of the Western Center Rd. exit. I-35 and 287 come together right before you get to this exit. The other option you have is to stay on I-35 toward downtown and take 287 to I-20. I would listen to radio station 820 am to find out the latest traffic reports and this might help. Hope this helps.

Just received a fare watcher update of 119.00. Didn't check out dates but someone might be able to use.
