I thought it would be neat to hear from people regarding character encounters.

Have they ever "slipped up" and spoken? Done something unexpected?

Any little character secrets that would be interesting to know or look for?

Thanks!
Sharla

I've got one. Back in Feb. of 2000 three friends and I were getting our pictures taken with characters at Camp Minnie Mickey. We were in line to see Goofy. When the people in front of us moved on, we started walking closer to Goofy. He stopped and pointed at my friend Jodi. Then he motioned across his chest in a way that we knew he was noticing the writing on her shirt. She was wearing a Cleveland Indians shirt. Well Goofy motioned across his chest so that we knew he was referring to the Cleveland Indians and then he did the Aresenio Hall arm swing thing (you know how the guest of AH's show did that 'woof 'woof' woof thing?) We thought it was pretty cool that Goofy was a fan of the Tribe. :)

Of course I will start this by saying there is only ONE Cinderella and only ONE Sleeping Beauty...in know this LOL :)

We went Disneyland in California and arrived there along with the mascot of the restaurant that my roommate was working for (it was a beanie baby plataypus... her name was Shirley and she went on everyones vacations).

On our first day there we saw Cinderella. We explained to Cinderella that Shirley (the plataypus) has a vacation photo album and that everyone that goes on vacation takes her with them. We explained that we would like a picture of Cinderella with Shirley for the Album. Of course she took the picture. Well through the week we slow became known as the crazy CM's from WDW with the stuffed plataypus :) Well on our last day there we saw Sleeping Beauty. We got in line to get pictures and as we walked up she got a great big smile and said "Shirley..." then she stopped short and said "I have never meet you before". It was so funny... It was the same girl that had been Cinderella days earlier but mid sentence she realized that Shirley in fact had met Cinderella NOT Sleeping Beauty.

We like to head over to the BC for out first breakfast each trip. One year we took my niece for christmas and of course we took her to Goofy's beach bash breakfast. While there were on hand chip, dale and goofy, somehow we started a game of tag that had them running all over the restaurant after each other, and goofy lost his swim vest, while trying to get away from one of the chipmunks. All the while Minnie was at the front door shaking her head and tapping her foot. It was too funny.

Here's my favorite -

DH and I were waiting in line to see Mickey at the Halloween party a few years ago. He was standing in the little covered area next to Town Hall. He was dressed as a scarecrow, and his costume included jeans that were held up by a rope belt. Just as we got to the front of the line, I heard the CM who was helping Mickey gasp in horror. I looked up and Mickey's pants were down around his ankles!! Mickey tried to bend over and pull them up, but he couldn't because of his gloves, so his helper ran over and yanked them up. Then she announced that Mickey would be right back and ushered him out through a door in the fence, all the while holding is pants up. We waited a few minutes, and he came back, properly dressed.

So . . . if anybody wants to know what Mickey looks like with no pants on, just pm me! I can tell you for sure that he doesn't wear underwear! ;)

My favorite was during a trip to WDW in Sept. 2000. We were in Toontown at the character tent and we were in the line, where you don't know who the characters will be. Well when we went in it was Chip and Dale. Well, Dale was being mischievous and un-did my step-daugthers pony tail. Now that morning for some reason it took me FOREVER to get that pony tail in. At the time we were using those hair ties with the plastic balls and they can be difficult for me. Well, there I am half yelling, half joking at Dale because I thought I would never be able to get her hair back in a pony tail (didn't have a comb or anything with me). Well, Chip comes over and will no problem at all (and only 4 fingers) takes the hair tie and gets her hair back up. Needless to say, I was thankful and I think Chip was played by a mom that day :D

DS (10) was acting "too cool" for the picture I was trying to take of him and his 4siblings with Stitch. I was like "Nate, come on, get in the picture." And he was all rolling his eyes and off to the side. Well, stitch sees my son trying to be too cool and breaks loose from my other 4 and goes over to Nate and musses his hair up, PRETENDS to pick his (Nate's) nose and pulls him over to the others, tickling him in the armpits.

Very funny!

Whenever Disney is being discussed, Nate pipes up, "Hey, remember when Stitch picked my nose!"

heidica .... that is soooo funny because he did the same exact thing to my dd!

chip and dale are obviously "teenage" males since when we were at a character meal with 5 teenage girls they spent the entire time chasing them around the table, the buffet, the entire restaurant. their handler kept calling them over and i think telling them to cool it but they didn't llisten, bad boys that they are. it was very funny and thankfully it was late & only 1 other family was there with a very sleepy infant who wanted no part of the characters so the fact they were otherwise preoccupied didn't matter

My family was in Epcot over by the Kaki Gori stand in Japan when Chip and Dale appeared. They ran over and started taking some of the shaved ice from behind the counter. The poor woman behind the counter looked surprised, but pretty amused. Then they ran over to my 3 boys and started putting the ice down their backs. It was hilarious! Needless to say, those two are our favorites now.

I've got two. Both from the early 90's, with DW, DS and I; DS was a bit older (11, 12).

1. We were at the character breakfast at the Contemporary, and Prince John came by. He admired my watch, then slid it off my wrist (it was an expando-band, no latch to unhook). He then held it up, looked at it closely, nodded his approval, then left! He took it behind the scenes. This happened right after we were seated, and the whole breakfast I kept looking for Prince John - and my watch. We actually got up to leave, and as I was leaving, all of a sudden I felt a tap on my shoulder; it was Prince John, with my watch. He gave me a hearty hand-shake, a pat on the back and my watch, then we left.

2. We were at the character breakfast at the Polynesian (Minnies Minehune?) when Chip and Dale came by. For some reason, these two characters have always picked on my at WDW - and I'm talking over a decade, so I know it's not the same CMs - and that morning was no different. We took a picture of them with my son, who was just at that age to be both amused and embarassed; as they were leaving, I loudly said "Chip and Dale are my favorite squirrels!" Well, they stopped, turned around and I was in trouble. While Chip gave me a "shame, shame" with his fingers, Dale actually took a butter knife and held it to my throat! Gently, of course, and I never felt threatened - I started laughing, then said "Chipmunk! I meant Chipmunk!" and I was released, unharmed. I bet that'll never happen again in this day and age, but I thought it was a hoot, and is truly a Disney memory!

While DH and I were taking pictures of Genie, Genie noticed that I was recently married (hense, we were on our honeymoon.) He was joking around that he was wanted me to "call him" and to ditch DH. It was cute.

Our Fave character memory involes the two mice with Cinderella
i can never remeber there names (the female mice)

We had been at WDW for a few days and been to all the parks except epcot looking for cinderella
our timing was such that we kept missing her
well a very nice CM said she will be over in France at 1:00 he said to go to the back by the gate and wait and we would be the first to see her as she entered that way
so we went with DD's 4 and 6 and waited and the gate opened but not cinderella it was the Beast
so still we waited and about 10 minutes later the gates open and out come Cinderellas to mice friends They each took one of my daughters hands and precede to prominade thru Fance with the kids in tow
DH ran after them cause they were rapidly moving out of sight i was so busy trying to put everything in the strooler to catch up that i never got a picture but it will always be in our head
the mice went all thru France and then to the character meet and took the girls up and presented them one at a time to Cinderella

i know that CM must have had something to do with it unfortunatly i could never find him to thank him

GEM - To funny!

I was at DISConI at MVMCP - we had a Partaking of the Corn picture event on the steps of City Hall (long story about the corn, was a big joke around here for awhile if you remember)
Anyhow, I had my can of corn & was taking pictures of it in various places around the Park when I ran into Tweedle Dum.
I asked him if I could take a picture of him with the can of corn.
He accepted & I took the picture - then he fell in love with my corn & wouldn't give it back - Security became involved, he also tried to get Tweedle Dee & Alice in on the escapade. They, however, did not understand the significance of the Corn.....
After Tweedle tried to make his escape by hopping a fence, which his stumpy legs would not permit - he returned said corn. It was hilarious. Of course, my teenage son was staying right out of it, being at that tender age of embarrassment at the time...
I'm glad I took pictures of the event as it unfolded tho - what a happy memory.

Ever since I've known my dh, he has been able to do an incredible Donald Duck voice impersonation. He couldn't wait to have kids so he could do it for them. Well, our dd has always been somewhat embarrassed by Dad's 'talent'. So, there we are, at Donald's Breakfastasaurus and over comes 'the man' ah, I mean 'the duck'. So, dh goes into his 'duck talk'. I thought Donald was going to wet himself. He was miming hysterical laughter for about 5 minutes. Everyone in the place was staring at us, dh was 'quacking' away, Donald was shaking all over with laughter. And dd??? Practically under the table. It's hard to be almost 11 with parents like us. Our server told us that we had made Donald's day. All the characters had heard about the 'man-duck'!!!!

I'm getting all revved (sp?) up for my December trip and this thread helps!

Chip and Dale are always fun to be around. I once saw one of them (can't remember which) floss his tooth with a young girls scrunchie. She wasn't amused, but I don't think his tooth was dirty.

I also like the statue-lady you see in Epcot. Does she have a name or something? Anywho, I saw her in Italy on our last trip so I went up and handed her my rented PalMickey to hold while I sat in front of her for the pic. Hehehe... DH snaps the shot, I stand up and she is holding Mickey over her head. By the way, she's standing on a pedastal. I put my hands on my hips and just looked up like, "Now what?" so I reah out to tickle her and she lowers her arm for me to reach Mickey - AND TICKLES ME instead!

It was great - I'll see if I have the pics to put up here.

We were eating a very late breakfast at Chef Mickey -- so late that by the end of our meal only we and one other family were left in the place. Out comes Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Chip and Dale and they were ready to "play." They grabbed our napkins, ran around the tables, threw food at each other and played "tag" with our DS's. It was great! It was an impromptu show that was put on just for us! Chef Mickey is still a place we HAVE to go on each trip! ::yes::

I, too, have had been given extra "attention" by Chip and Dale (at Chef Mickey). I have received a lot of hugs and "kisses" from them -- WAY more than my two little DS's ever got. I'd get some affection from them, they'd go down a table or two and then run back to me, giving me more "lovies." In fact my DH (a TOTALLY non-jealous man) noticed how much extra attention Mommy was getting and said "I think Chip and Dale are forgetting about our boys, Mommy. They kinda like you, though." (That's as "jealous" as he gets.) My two DS's still refer to Chip and Dale as the "Disney characters who really like Mommy." :p
