I'm a WDW vet going to Disneyland for the first time in January.

One of the things I love about WDW is all the food I get to eat that I can't get at home.

So please share your suggestions on places both on and off property and if you need reservations for the place.

For some info on us:
It will just be DH and me.
We don't mind paying for really good food and experiences so any price range is ok for suggestions.
DH hates seafood though. I don't tend to order it much either. I don't hate most of it I just almost always find something I rather have.
Steakhouses and Italian (either pizza or pasta) food are favorites

Chain restaurants is ok as long as its something we can't get back home often and since we live in the middle of no where that is most places so just list any chains you like to hit as well.

Cafe Orleans is the first place that comes to mind. Having a dinner of Monte Cristo, pomme frites and a mint julep doesn't sound like anything I would find at home or WDW for that matter.

If you don't mind spending a little extra cash, I would suggest Carthay Circle at California Adventure. Definitely should make reservations.. and if you go for dinner. Try for the World of Color package, that way you get a dedicated reserved premium spot to view World of Color (a must for your first trip to Disney). ** Fried Biscuits are off the chain!**

Other amazing options:

- Lobster Nachos at Cove Bar @ Cali Adventure (21+ no reservations needed. It's on the side of Ariel's Grotto)
- Mickey Beignets at Mint Julep Bar
- Fried Green Beans @ Trader Sams

Eat at the Blue Bayou in DL. Most unique atmosphere in DL as it's part of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

We were there last week and I got the salmon, which was delish, although I know you said seafood isn't your thing. My dd had the chicken and loved it. They also have a steak (maye a surf and turf) and said you could order the monte cristo even though it's not specifically on the menu.

We also ate at Cafe Orelans and I thought it was just so-so. We sat inside, which I think probably had something to do with it...uncomfy chairs and a table that wobbled. Loud and chaotic.

Carthay Circle was really good, but if you are doing it for World of Color, I would prefer Wine Country Trattoria...the seating section for that restaurant is much better than the Carthay Circle seating section. More towards the middle viewing section and a bit closer.

You said that steakhouses are favorites, so how about Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel? It usually gets rave reviews.

Napa Rose Chef's Counter is my favorite dining experience in the resort. Super delicious and they will prepare tasting menu with your needs in mind (just tell the chef no seafood if that's what you want).

I'll chime in with some good offsite options (live about 5 min from the park).

Anaheim Packing House - http://anaheimpackingdistrict.com/packing-house (maybe 5 min from the parks) - Opened about 3 or 4 months ago, its a food hall with a bunch of local/unique restaurants - right across the park from the packing house is a great burger place (Umami Burger) and Anaheim Brewery.

The Globe - Restaurant & Bar - http://www.theglobeoc.com/ (about 10ish min from parks) Great gastropub type cuisine with international flair. Amazing selection of belgian beers on draft.

Tonys Deli - Anaheim - Great sandwich shop (5 min away)

Lucilles - Orange - Good southern bbq/comfort food (10-15 mins away)

Hope this gives you some ideas!

Everyone posted great tips on restaurants, but I have to add my opinion about one little thing, Churros! IMO, the churros at Disneyland are amazing compared to WDW, they are crispy and fluffy at the same time! I tried to find churros in WDW, I believe there was only one place to get them, and when I did, I was disappointed. But, there are churro carts everywhere in DL and DCA, so if you want a snack make sure to try one from here.

HTH,

In and out burger is a big hit with some of our family members, we had it out last trip but had to take it to go and I wasn't thrilled with it but I think it would be way better fresh in house. Also the plaza inn fried chicken in DL is one of our favourites.

Check out - disneyfoodblog. On the right hand side, select "Disneyland" and you will see a ton of reviews and insight into favorites.

Corn dogs from the Little Red Wagon.
It's all about the corn dogs.
And did I mention the corn dogs?????

As a WDW vet myself, I'll suggest Big Thunder Mt Ranch BBQ. The food here is really good. Ribs and chicken are rubbed just right, and the cornbread with honey butter is great! Think Flame Tree BBQ, but it's all you can eat, and you get a little country ho-down show. If you're going this fall/winter, go for lunch as it is outdoors and the evenings may make it too cool to enjoy a good meal.

BTW, you'll miss all the good food options of WDW. DL just doesn't have all those great places to eat like Liberty Tree Tavern, 1900 Park Faire, or anything at Epcot.

Well what I bolded is going to officially make that place a must do for DH.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

I heard Disneyland doesn't have as good as disneyworld but you have all given me plenty of good options!

Bengal Barbecue chicken skewers! Add the roast veggies and you have a healthy meal.

Dole Whips and the churros are the best snacks ANYWHERE.

My favorite places outside are Coco's, Tiffy's and Tony Roma's. All within walking distance, and we've never gotten a bad meal at any of them! Enjoy your trip!

You won't be disappointed! The owner and his wife are from Belgium and are working there almost every night - very friendly (we've been going there about 3 years - pretty much since they opened). He knows his beer and imports kegs of all kinds of hard to find Belgian beers (including seasonal ones) and serves them in all the authentic glassware. One of my favorites is Pauwel Kwak! Food is outstanding as well.

Enjoy your trip!

Belgian white and Heffinweisen (probably spelt that wrong) beers are my husband's favorite kinds of beer. Once I tell him about this place its probably going to be one of the things he is looking forward to most.

Now this is a bit of a long shot... But anyone have any suggestions for San Diego? We are spending a few days there before heading up to Anaheim.

On site:

DL:
Blue Bayou
Carnation Cafe
Corn dog wagon

DCA:
Carthay Circle. So yummy and the fried biscuits were amazing!

Hotels:
Steakhouse 55! Wonderful food and service.
Trader Sams. Fun to pop in for a cocktail and the pineapple burger and flatbreads are tasty.

Off site:
Cheesecake Factory in Gardenwalk mall. Tons of things to choose from!
Lucille's (I second the above PP) so yummy and not too far of a drive. The peach lemonade is delicious as is their free biscuits.

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Corndogs from stage door cafe. They come with fries at stage door as opposed to chips at the little red wagon. The fries are a lot more filling. Also the Jolly Holiday Bakery for some great sweet treats. I had the pumpkin cheesecake there last week. It was fantastic.
