My family just returned from a 2 week stay in Orlando, and I must say, the high light of our trip was the day we were selected to be the "First Family" to open the park at MGM. I didn't have any idea that they did this - I never read about it in any of the books... and I read a lot of books! We got up bright and early that morning, getting to the gates at 8:00am. We were the first ones in line, so our gang (me, dh, 4 dds, sister, her dh, her 2 kids, and one honorary uncle) were just goofing around while we waited. A cm, Ron, comes over to my girls and asks them, " How would you like to be the first people in the park today?" So, hamming it up, I told the girls to say," We would love it! What do we have to do ? We'll do anything!!" He laughed, and then proceeded to tell us about the elephants that needed cleaning up after. My smart kids did not fall for this, so he said, "Everyone in your party, follow me!" We entered the gates, leaving everyone else staring jealously - hee hee hee. We got our picture taken in front of the hat. We got a certificate saying that we were the "First Family". We got a fast pass to any ride we wanted. Then, when the park was officially ready to open, my niece, Molly, got to hold the clapboard while everyone shouted, "Lights, camera, action!" It was very cool, and I was just curious to see if any others out there ever received this unexpected honor.
