Any fencing at BLT beach yet?

The fencing went up ASAP on all beaches. I read the brown rope type is a temporary one and the more permanent will have a netting I believe as well as the ropes..smjj

There are signs up everywhere now too, even on non beach locations, for example in OKW there are signs all the way along the river bank even though there is no footpath on that side of the road

How is the view now that the rope fences are up? Does it detract much looking out over the water?

They had netting along the section of beach just beyond the BLT pool when I was out there today.

I was wondering how they would handle this area. I am glad it is still open with the net fence. I was afraid they would just lock the gate to the entire area since it was not all that big...smjj

you know kids (and some adults) think they can do what they please without anything happening to them. so the steam at OKW can and does have alligators and snakes.

you know years ago Marriott did this - wonder what took Disney so long.

We were at Disney 6/19-25 so a week or so after the incident. On the 25th we drove to Epcot and parked in the last row of one of the lots. There was a ditch with water in it separating the lot we were in with the next lot and there were the new signs warning of alligators and snakes spaced evenly all along that ditch. So the signs are going up in every place where water could be entered.

I'm curious to know about the snake warning included on the signs. I've heard rumors about snake sightings but were there any incidents?

A few years ago my wife and I were returning to the Poly and were using the outside steps and next to them was some very tall bamboo. There on the landing was a very large snake. Someone had already called on it and sure enough 2 Disney people showed up a minute or so later and removed this very large rat snake. They said are very common and non venomous and had probably slithered out of the bamboo...smjj

Don't know about incidents but WDW waters are home to venomous Water Moccasins.

I've read of one, maybe two. The one I most remember was where a child had reached or gone into a bush area to retrieve a toy and was bit by a poisonous snake. I don't think it was a false report but never really dug much into it. There are poisonous varieties of snakes in FL and around WDW. I keep an eye out and as I'm not a great snake identifier I try to avoid any and we have seen a few on the sidewalks during our trips.

As warning signs about wildlife are now being posted it wouldn't really matter if there had been incidents or not. They should include the warnings for any dangerous wildlife in the area.

When we were walking down the Kilimanjaro Safari queue on 7/3, we walked past a CM standing in the landscape on the other side of the wall. She was calling to another CM to "come watch this snake" while she took care of some other business. So, yes, there are snakes all over. And, yes, they have a procedure to deal with them.

At FW I was heading to the quiet pool by the cabins and there was a huge snake coming straight down the sidewalk towards me :scared:.
Once we started getting closer I thought it would slither into the woods but it didn't yield. So, I actually had to cross the road to get by him...it was very embarrassing :o. Rassafrassing no-good snake :( !

Yes there have been incidents of snake bites, usually of someone putting a hand under a shrub to get a toy out. But this was definitely different and had a sad result.

Good luck to that family proving that case. How the grandson's snake bite by a non-attraction snake, which was treated, contributed to a cardiac arrest hours later AFTER they enjoyed the rest of the day at the park is going to be interesting to see.

I saw a skinny black snake near the tennis court at Vero Beach but never have seen one at WDW. Thank goodness!

We had a raccoon incident at the FW quiet pool last year. He jumped on a picnic table, grabbed one of my kid's Caprisun juice pouches and vanished in to the woods! Although that was more entertaining than scary.
