Hi All,

A co-worker of mine is considering a DSLR purchase (Nikon D50 to be specific), and he brought in print outs of pages from the Geniuscameras website. The prices pretty much blew me away. For instance, the D50 body only price is $350, or $550 for the D80 body only. I warned him to ask questions and be sure that the package includes such 'frivolous' items as a strap, battery and USB cable etc. Has anyone here done business with them? Or maybe have recommendations as to what else to watch out for?

Thanks,

Chris

I would stay away. If it sounds too good to be true...

Check out Reseller Ratings for reviews - it looks like they have received a cumulative rating of 0.58 out of 10 with 113 people reviewing this "store."

B&H is very reputable (I have no affiliation). I have purchased several things from there without issue.

Lots of bad reviews, including reports of stolen merchandise. The resellerratings.com website is pretty reliable for weeding out the scam artists.

Buydig.com/Beachcamera.com get a good rating for a discount site. They are sister companies. B&H and Adorama are some of the best, but their prices are a little higher. I had had two perfect experiences with Buydig and would recommend them. The difficulty with them compared to B&H or Adorama would be if you had a return. Not impossible, just more difficult.

I always use B&H. I have spent many thousands with no issues. Plus with them in NY and me in VA, UPS ground is usually here in 3 days.

Thanks for the input:thumbsup2 I pretty much convinced my friend to look elsewhere (B&H, Abe's of Maine etc) although I hadn't considered buydig yet. It appears that the Genius 'deal' is exactly what I had warned him of, just a body, no battery, charger, or anything else.

Thanks again,

Chris
