Any Experiences From The Sci-Fi Dine In Theater in HS?

My first experience was not so good ... we ended up in the BACK of a full car with the restaurant being 90% empty.

We retried it last month and it was a much more enjoyable experience. I didn't want a huge lunch so I had the tomato soup and onion rings and both were really good! Definintely glad I gave it another go and DD thought it was a blast. She got a whole row to herself.

My kids love it. Wanted to go back on second trip but we couldnt fit it in.
If you go have the waitstaff take a photo without the flash. Dashboard lights will keep you infocus while no flash shows off the atmosphere!

The milk shakes used to be good. Not anymore. They are now made with soft ice cream, rather than the hand-dipped style. They are boring and tasteless and not worth the bother. We used to go mid-afternoon for shakes and onion rings. The onion rings are still good. But, now the shakes aren't good, we don't see the point.
I don't like to see that... I loved the milkshakes there.

I've eaten at Sci-Fi and I love it. The ambience is excellent and as PP said the A/C is cranked up in there. It is one of my favorite places to go for a relaxing lunch to cool off in WDW. My favorite meal there is the ribs. They aren't the best I've ever had, but they are very good and I felt like I got my money's worth.

I've only eaten there once, so this may have been the acception rather than the rule, but the food was awful. In our group, all the food was either undercooked (my chicken was raw in the middle) or tasted like it was under a heat lamp waiting for someone to order that specific meal. 2 of 3 of us were not feeling well 30 min later.

Thanks for all the tips, folks. :)

I'm glad I posted this, because my boys and I love burgers and I didn't know they were only served at lunch. We'll definitely make a lunch ressie rather than dinner.

DH and I have been for lunch twice and love the ambiance. The reuben and the burgers are very good but the best was the onion rings!

You're not the only one. The one time I went, no one in my party of 9 got their food fully cooked, and I actually got food poisoning from my burger (I was sick the entire next day and I will spare you the details).

If you ask my family for 1 meal that is a must do every trip, SCI-FI and Tusker House Dondald's Safari Breakfast are the only 2 that are unanimous! We LOVE SCI-FI, we do go for lunch and get the burgers, onion rings and a shake (you can ask them to make it with hand scooped ice cream-we had read on disboards that they were now made with soft serve but their sundaes are hand scooped, so we asked, they said sure and they were DELISH!:lovestruc)

The atmosphere is the best at Disney, it is dark (drive-in movie setting) and quite. The kids feel so cool sitting in the car.

We have been going every other year since 1990 and we never get tired of it. When I am planning the trips now (taking my grandkids a few at a time), my grown kids always say "don't forget to take them to Sci-Fi!" Our last trip (August '09) we took 2 of our grandkids that were both 11 at the time, we are now planning a trip in December '11 with the next set (3) that will all be 11, when I ask the 2 that went in '09 what their favorite place to eat was so I could make sure I took this set, they both said "the place where we ate in the car".

YOU WILL LOVE IT! :thumbsup2

Have fun!:dance3:

I really enjoy Sci Fi too :goodvibes

Agree with a PP though - it can be quite chilly, even if it is REALLY hot outside, and as nice as it is for 5 mins to cool down, it can get a bit too cold - so I would suggest bring a cardigan or something :)

It's a burger and shake place with all the kitch you'd hope for just by the name, the decor, the movies etc., it's fun and the reuben and burgers are good!

We go during busy times and since it's just me and DS we always end up in the back of someone's car. We talk quietly though and can't hear the people in front of us. I do wish that we could ever be in the front though.

We did like our food this past October and the service was excellent. The whole atmosphere is great.

We are a family of 5 so this isnt a problem for us however if I knew that was a possibility I would asked to be seated in frount and tell the server I was willing to wait. If I had gone several times and never been in frount I would tell them that.

We went for dinner and noticed the burger was not on the menu. I commented to the server that we had seen a burger on the all ears.net menu and she said oh we can mke that for you. It really does pay to ask.;)

We ate dinner here during our first trip. For the life of me I cant remember what we ordered :rotfl: I do remember my girls loving sitting in the car but being dissapointed that they didnt show actual "movies" persay. It was just previews for old 50's movies as well as intermission commercials. They loved their food though. I do remember I got the chocolate peanutbutter cake for desert but that's it. I would really like to try this place for lunch and hope to on our trip in July of this year.

We have not made it to Sci-Fi for one family trip. It won't happen again! This is the only place that all the kids agree on. Like other posters have stated, it's more about the ambiance than the food. (I always schedule lunch.) Kick back and enjoy!

It's a great place for lunch but not dinner anymore. There dinner menu is bad.

The food was okay, thought it was a fun place, but we waited over 2 hours to be seated (with an adr). We do not plan to return.

We always do lunch there. The burgers and onion rings are great as well as that chocolate peanut butter cake!!

My oldest son has been going since he was 3 years old and there are two restaurants he always asks to go back to-----California Grill and Sci-Fi!!!!
He's 23 now and he just made the same request for our upcoming trip in May.:lmao:

Hey all! Have all of you only made reservations? I know they're suggested but our trips are usually planned at the last minute since we live so close. Do you think a walk-in would be okay for just lunch on a week day? Thanks!

I tried doing a walk in for lunch last January and we were told they were full for the next 3 days :confused3. I walked out called DH who was at his office and got me an ADR for an hour later. So, if you try to walk in and they are unable to get you a table, try checking online...

We have always made reservations and we always go at lunch around 11:30. The last 2 times we have gone, after we check in and are waiting for them to call our name, there are always families coming in to see if there is any availability and they have always been turned away and told that there is no availability "booked the rest of the day". Now that the value & moderates get the QS free, instead of the DDP, this may make a difference and it never hurts to try. Good luck!
