Any Experienced plumbers can offer advice about low-flush toilets

By the way, the devil-toilet that I talked about earlier, the one that won't flush 5 squares of TP, did somehow manage to completely flush a sock. Just FYI, in case anyone is interested.

Are you talking about the one that clogs if you even look at it "funny"? ;) :lmao: That's really funny about the sock! :lmao: :lmao: I hope it went all the way through. Otherwise, you may be dealing with another clog very soon.:scared1:

We have three 1.6 gallon toilets in this house and in 14 years and I've had to plunge a toilet maybe twice. We do use Scott's but my girls do flush tissues down there too. And we never have to flush twice to get it all down. I'm sure it has to do with the design of the toilet. One thing you folks with newer houses can count on is your builder is going to put the cheapest toilet he can find in your house so they could care less about the design.

And I don't understand why would a plumber hate them? You would think a plumber would love them if they keep his phone ringing.

We've been in this house 11+ years, and ever since I changed out the middle of the road Kohler toilets that came with the house with pressurized ones, I've forgotten where my plunger is. That happend about 7 years ago.
Alll the major toilet manufacturers make them, but some work better than others. They have a tank in the tank, and it pressurizes under normal house water pressure. A few years ago we were tiling a bathroom floor for a local dentist, and when the topic of installing a new toilet came up, his wife said to find the cheapest toilet possible, because, " you know what you use a toilet for...no sense spending much money for something you do that to." Needless to say, we were back in a week or so, installling something that worked. Moral of story...You pay what you get for.

Hello all,

A little trick you can use is simply to hold the toilet handle down for a few seconds when flushing... This will ensure that the entire volume of water in the tank is utilized for the flush. This will effectively eliminate the 1.6gpf gremlins about 98% of the time... as for the other 2%, well there is always the plunger

Thanks for the advice. I think my DW buys Charmin. We will switch to scott and see what that does. I dont like these low flow toilets. Having to flush multiple times defeats the purpose :)

no wife in her right mind will buy Scott scratch paper...ummm...I mean toilet paper! At least that's what I tell my DH! So don't burst my bubble!! :lmao: Cha-Cha-Cha...Charmin'!! :snooty:

For folks reluctant to invest in better designed toilets, you can always leave a two liter container atop the toilet. Fill it before flushing and then flush and pour at the same time.
