Any experience with US election returns while at sea?

Hoping to win the Power Ball this Saturday so I can take nonstop WDW cruises, from ASAP through two weeks past election day. I really don't want to watch how nasty this is going to become leading up to the election and skip past all the post election babel. I'll just make sure I get my Absentee Ballot sent in and forget the rest of the campaign season.

I really like MakiraMarlena's post :stir: Mixing up my favorite Rum drink as soon as I hit the 'Post Reply' icon!

I hear you screaming. Maybe I should pick up one of those tickets too.

Planning on staying on an island in case the results aren't what you hoped for? :duck:
In Canada, we have the option of advance polls in case one is away on election day. I believe in voting early, voting often.:)

One of my favorite lines...being originally from Chicago . :D

Don't worry, there will be plenty news about President Trump when you get off the ship!

I spent a lot of time on the Dis Boards & podcasts on Tuesday and Wednesday (I'm in Indiana now) trying to avoid the election! (And a very good job y'all did of distracting me, too! :thanks:)

Three years ago I sat on a beach in Cozumel that had free wi-fi and looked up election results for my hometown's mayor and city council races. I wasn't going to wait for the Disney Fantasy to broadcast the results over the PA system. :)

That sounds delightful!

I can't remember ever being on a cruise and not getting CNN or Fox. The eastern is near many US territory's like Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. I would expect to have the major networks on Satellite. They always have the NFL games on the ships.

I don't try often to get news while at sea but remember almost always getting a blank screen other than a message that no broadcast was available due to international regulations. Not the correct verbiage but something to that effect.

In November 2014, we sailed during the Florida elections and got all the results from the in room TV.
We had CNN and it was an Eastern route.

Sounds like I will be fine. Thanks, lorimay.

Good idea going during the election. Gives you a chance to "forget" to be back to the boat on time after an excursion. :rolleyes1

:rolleyes1

o_O

We can vote early or absentee as well.

The only times I could not access some of the news stations was in port. BBC will be covering the elections just as heavily as CNN or Fox.

ETA: Was on the Magic in April. I know we had BBC, MSNBC, and Fox. I can't remember if CNN was on or not. HTH

I wonder if that was my problem. I only turn to "my" channels while my son is still asleep. Perhaps we were in port or approaching one as I tried to tune in. This has happened more than once but as I said, I don't even try very often.

I was on during the soccer World Cup, and they announced scores shipwide. I believe one match was also shown on FunnelVision. There's also a small "news headlines" sheet they print each day & you can pick up at Guest Services. I'm sure it will be hard to avoid election results. :)

I remember that little newsletter on our very first cruise on the Wonder. Asked on a subsequent cruise on either the Magic or Fantasy and the crew member looked at me like I was crazy. I obviously need to be more persistent!

I'll be in San Juan. I don't even want to see them. I'll just go rum tasting.

Good luck to you! :shamrock:

Thanks to everyone who took time to answer my question. :thanks: Sounds like I won't have a problem.

i'm surprised this hasn't turned nasty political yet...i salute you all!!

I really appreciate everyone who shared their experiences. Earlier this morning I multi-quoted but somehow all were lost but one in which I did it incorrectly. Still not used to the new format after what two years or so?:headache:

Anyway it may be that I have only tried accessing news channels when we are in or near a port. Thanks for that hint. I only try "my" channels when my son is still asleep in the morning and not that often. At any rate, I have usually been greeted by a blank screen other than announcement to the effect that the channel can not be broadcasted due to international regulations (not the exact verbiage). All of you have given me hope that I will have no problem. Frankly, this is a good year for me to not see too much coverage but I will leave it at that!

As for the news summary at GS, we really enjoyed that on our very first cruise on the Wonder in 2010 into 2011. On a subsequent cruise on either the Magic or Fantasy, I asked for one and the crew member said he had never heard of one.

Clearly I need to be more persistent!

Thanks again, everyone.:thanks: And good luck with the lottery!:shamrock:

I saw them on the Wonder in 2014.

Hard to imagine they would do them on the Wonder (or maybe Wonder and Magic?) and not all the ships.

So the question at hand is: Has anyone ever seen headline sheets on a ship other than the Wonder?
