Any experience with laparoscopy??

Most definitely take loose fitting clothes with you. And make sure to wear loose clothes while healing.

I had a laparoscopy 5 yrs ago to remove a 14 lbs ovarian cyst. Unfortunately for me, because my cyst was so large, I still have a foot long scar down my stomach (no bikinis or short shirts for me). I also had a very long recovery for mine.

Hopefully you won't have an aversion to the meds they give you. I was lucky in that respect because I had no problems. I do remember waking up right after the surgery and a feeling of my stomach burning (anesthesia wore off cause surgery took longer than expected). But you shouldn't have this problem much.

Also definitely use a pillow lightly pressed to your tummy when getting up. And see if the hospital will allow you to take a small one with you or have one in the car when you leave. Put the pillow between you and your seatbelt.

Good luck and I hope all is well with you.

Thanks so much for all your replies! :) I am 46 so I am not concerned with the fertility end of things - done with having kids! Dr. has asked if I wanted her to just take everything out! :) Not so sure about that, but if there was a need for it then I wouldn't mind.

I am VERY concerned about afterwards. I have never had anesthesia before so I am not sure how I will react. My stomach is extremely sensitive so I am also worried about the nausea afterwards. I am hoping that it is not any worse than what I am going through now. Last month I had cramps so bad that I had the dry heaves, was shaking badly, and thought I had to go to the emergency room. Of course DH was away on business and I was alone with the kids so Ijust had to tough it out - very scary tho.

I want my dr. to find something - but not find something - know what I mean?

Jill

Ask dr. for an anti-nausea patch before the surgery. THey gave me one and I was fine.

I remembered one more thing. Before the procedure I went to a video store and rented some DVD's since I was going to be spending time on teh couch. I rented some very funny movies. Big mistake, laughing hurt a lot. I had to force myself not to laugh. So keep that in mind when choosing what to watch when you are on the couch.
