Any experience /info regarding Electric Fireplaces?

Does any one have anything to offer regarding electric fireplaces/wood stove looking type things? We were thinking of getting one for a smaller room that would only be used for a couple hours at at time. I'm wondering about the cost and efficency. We don"t want to get a pellet stove for several reasons, how much it would be used, storing the wood pellets and so on. Any info would be appreciated. TIA.

We have one in the master bedroom because it tends to be cooler there. It was easy to put together, and then it just plugs in to a regular outlet. It's very pretty, and we do turn it on when it's chilly in the room, but it has a kindof loud fan, so it's not exactly soothing to listen to. It does put out the heat, so we turn it on when we need it, then turn it off once it's taken the chill out of the air. It has a remote control, but the remote only turns the fan up and down, it doesn't turn the whole unit on and off, which was disappointing, since we have to get out of bed to turn it off.

Thanks for the info...How does the flame look? Realistic, semi realistic?
