Wow I can't believe I've met someone else! lol I'm not too much help as i'm really just now getting into my important classes but so far so good! I've always known I wanted to do something medical but I just kind of fell into this major and its been pretty much perfect. How far is your DD into her program?

She just changed her major this summer for the fall semester. She was an education major. She is really excited. Do you mind me asking what school you attend? What type of career are you looking at persuing when you finish? I 'm sorry to be asking so many questions but we are trying to convince her dad it's a good major change...he's a bit skeptical.
I absolutely don't mind! I'm a junior at Eastern Michigan University. The exercise science program is under the sports medicine grouping and a part of the health and human performance school here. There are a ton of options with this major. I have a neighbor who completed the same major and had an internship with a major Michigan cardiac hospital which led to a career in cardiac rehab. This is most likely what I will pursue as well. Depending on your DD's program, she has career options in personal training, cardiac rehab, sports fitness, and too many others to name. She can work anywhere from a hospital, to privet doctors offices, with sports teams, the government, health clubs, and in many other settlings. I don't know your DD's future aspirations but there are also a lot of opportunities in higher education with her degree. In some cases, employers have been known to offer reimbursement for or offer help in funding higher education in terms of certifications, masters degrees, even PhD's. Tell your DH that there are many many options and the hard part will be determining what to focus on! lol There should be no worries about being able to find a job, this is a field that is truly in high demand as the aging population grows. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be glad to help
Thanks so much for all your input. She is looking at becoming an athletic trainer or PT right now. She is really interested in trying to find a way to tie nutrition into what she is learning as well. She is hoping to go onto grad school (hopefully having it paid for by a scholarship or a really good employer ) We have heard that if she continues to do well that is a possibilty. She is going to a pretty small college up here in Maine but it has a good reputation. Because sheswitched majors it will probably put her a semester behind now but utimately we want her to be in a field that makes her happy(and money to payback those !@#$ student loans!!!!) Thanks again.
No problem I will say though that athletic training is usually a separate major/bachelors degree. And there are definitely nutrition/wellness based option in this major. Don't worry about her being a semester behind, its getting to be a challenge to make it through "four years" in four years lol Good luck!
My DD is also looking into Athletic training. It is a separate major at most of the schools in MI (where we live). She is looking at CMU (DH and I are both Alumni), Aquinas, Saginaw Valley, and Adrian.
