I received a package in the mail from Reunion resort and Club. We have been considering a move to Florida either sometime in the near future or at least for retirement. So we have been starting to look at places to live. Like I said, not sure if we are going to do this soon, in that case we would need a family type neighborhood or if we would purchase a home that we would use for retirement, but I was just curious if anyone has looked into the homes a Reunion or does anyone have a suggestion for a good neighboorhood near WDW (I want to work in WDW, of course so it would have to be within a 1/2 hour of WDW)

:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc I did! I did!

I have not actually seen the place yet but I have gotten quite a bit of information and attended a special informative session they held in my area this winter.

I was considering it the same way you are. I have to say that my excitement died down after the meeting. I'll reserve final judgement until I actually see what's there but I don't think it's for me.

The "style" seems very similar to Celebration. Personally, I'm looking for something more "Florida" if I make the move. The architecture looks too much like here. The sales rep did say that they will have a custom home section and that people might have more that type of home there.

While they played along with the idea of having some full-time residents it really seems more like they are creating DVC on steroids. They were really selling the concept of owning a home or condo there to be rented out constantly. Really almost like a timeshare but you make the purchase, they do the rental, and you share the profit. The condos even come furnished. It seemed like it would be like being a permanent resident while the rest of the neighbors were coming in and out constantly like at a DVC resort. The emphasis is very much on the "rent it out" concept.

The same company has done some upscale developments on golf courses that were full-time or vacation homes. Tesoro is one of their latest and Ocean Hammock is another. These places have homes in the million+ category and are not this rental idea that they are pushing for Reunion.

Overall, I was disappointed. It seems like a combination of Celebration and DVC without the benefits of either. Maybe it will turn out differently in the end. I would like to hear if anyone has actually gone to see the property. Terry--if you are interested they were offering packages to come down and take a look.

Didn't you think their marketing package looks a lot like DVC?

This is exactly what we are looking for. We are thinking of buying rental property. Do you have a website? We are going to be in Orlando for a few days and this is the type of real estate we wanted to check out. We're still in the investigating stage so other than one site we found on a realtor's page........we really don't have a clue. Of course, all of the money we make will enable us to one day be snowbirds..........One can dream, right?
Thanks for any info.

Thank you PamOKW for the very detailed response. After reading what you wrote if doesn't sound like something I would want. I don't want to permanantly live in a neighboorhood where many of the homes are being rented out and different people are coming and going.

marymrg.. the 800 number on the back of the brochure is 888-300-2434.

They do indeed have a website. http://www.reunionresort.com/

As I recall, the townhomes run roughly around $300,000 and membership in the country club and golf membership are additional (plus yearly fees). The golf courses are all being designed by top notch players -- Nicklaus, Palmer, etc. I think they are offering some "deals" on memberships for early purchasers. They also have homesites for sale and then you contract from a list of selected builders if you want a "standalone" home. I'd be interested in hearing back if you do actually go to see the place. From what I can determine, it is inland from Celebration on the same road. (Former ranch land.)
