So booking a 7 night cruise for either September or May (wife won a free trip!) and wondering if there are discounts on-board for DVC members. I can't get on the member site right now to look. Thanks!

Hi MrPTato! I just logged onto the DVC member site and could not find any discounts, though they certainly could be buried in there somewhere. I really can't recall for sure. Are you a Castaway Club Member? Gold maybe? I think they get a small discount in the stores… others here are far more expert in things DCL than me. Hopefully someone will be able to definitely tell you. If not, I would call MS, select the DCL advisor choice and ask 'em.

You should be invited to a DVC meeting, usually on embarkation day. There will be alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, information about current offerings as far as point costs and member exclusive trips, games and prizes. You will be able to stop by the DVC desk daily for little trinkets like flashing bracelets to wear on pirate night.

Congratulations on such a great prize! I have been on 13 DCL cruises and each one has been special!

The only shopping discounts on board are for Gold & Platinum Castaway Club Members and Disney CMs.

Will they know I am a DVC member when I book through DCL or is there a place I can say that I am a member? Thanks for help bobbi and erionm as well!

They should know your DVC regardless of how you booked the cruise. We typically receive a call prior to the cruise letting us know when the DVC Member Celebration is to take place.

At check-in a DVC desk/area should be set-up so that you can talk with the DVC CMs, get informed of any DVC meeting, and you can be sure you are on their list.
When you get to your stateroom, if there is a DVC sign on the door, then DCL/DVC are aware of your status. If not just go to the DVC desk and inform them, they will then make sure you get any DVC gifts.

And just to confirm...this is with paying cash prices, not points.

Mort1331, of course you may attend the DVC gatherings. You are a DVC member. :)

MrPTato, you should have the DVC magnet placed on your door soon after embarkation as Com_op_2000 says. And their advice if not, to be sure and stop by the DVC kiosk onboard to let them know you are a member (it helps if you have your DVC member card to verify) and what your stateroom number is. Have fun!

Just got off the cruise. The members meeting is actually really boring but they do give away some stuff and they raffled off $250 of onboard ship credit. However it was all a sales presentation and it was kinda boring. Just go, get the drinks and free stuff. Then go walk around for 45 min and poke back in at the end for the raffle.

Also, they know u are a dvc member. We never did anything to tell them we were dvc and we had the dvc magnet on our door when we got on the boat.

To reiterate, mort, you are a DVC member through and through if you own at one of their resorts whether direct or resale or both. As Bill notes, they'd love to sell you more! The last two times we cruised, they had no games just a friendly rah-rah get together, free bubbly or mimosas, and a few door prizes. Miss the games.....

There was a game during the cruise last week. They played Disney songs and you had to finish the song and say what movie it was from. It was half the room versus the other half

Yes, they give you those magnets. They are neat. On my last cruise in 2011, our magnet was stolen off the door :(. Beware of thieves on the Cruise.

And this current edition of the DVC get-together is still going on, it appears! We, too, had the finish a song contest and it was quite enjoyable. While we didn't win the main prize ($200 cruise credit), we did win a nice umbrella. Each night after 6 p.m., if you stopped by the DVC desk, they gave out little freebies, such as a drink holder you stick in the sand (at the beach) or DVC ball caps. They also left a nice card in our stateroom the first night, and if you brought it with you to the DVC desk, they gave you a "special gift." Well-l-l-l, the gift was a black and white pic (a copy actually) of Walt and Lily in their younger years. While nice, we don't routinely put pictures up on the wall of strangers (much less a mass-produced product). For us, that special gift was a bust.
