We have the strangest thing happening......

For the past two days we have had a ton of static and popping on our phone line, which ofcourse made accessing the web thru our DSL near impossible.

This afternoon, a phone guy came out, and ofcourse, the line was clear when he checked it!!! But I told him even though all 4 lights on my DSL modem were lite solid, I still could not access the web.He left saying he was going to go up the road and run a few more tests.

Well,he never came back

Now I have absolutely no dial tone on any of my phones, BUT my DSL logs on just fine.
Now how weird is that?

I'm calling the phone company first thing in the morning

Hi, I work for a telco....basically adsl works on 2 wires from the central office. What it sounds like to me, when the tech came out to your home, probably changed the cable pair that you were working on, one of 2 things happened. He did not connect the "dial tone" wire back to your house, but did connect the "adsl" wire, Or he connected both properly, but the central office "where your dialtone comes from" does not have your "dial tone" wire connected properly. I hope this clears things up for you.

I also work for a telco and had a similar problem, however, what happened to me was something fairly simple. I had a dial-up modem connected to the phone line also. My dial up modem died and crreated an open circuit which left me with no dial tone.

You may also want to check your filters and make sure they are all pluggeds in and not loose as this could cause static on the line also. Ah DSL you can use the phone or the net but not at the same time LOL go with cable sorry just had to say it.

Sounds like someone may have givne you incorrect information at some point, as the above statement is not true. Adsl service allows a user to be online, as well as make and receive calls at the same time. OP heres hoping you problem was fixed.

Yes I know how DSL works I used to do structured cabling voice and data, fiber and wireless for many years I was just poking fun at the DSL users as I am on cable LOL.

I was on cable and switched to DSL (much cheaper) and to be honest, we've hardly noticed any difference, except for the PRICE of course! Cable users pay WAY too much when you can get basically the same service with DSL. I do visit mostly the same websites so i'm sure that has alot to do with load speed but i know that as far as outages go, i had alot more outages with comcast than i do with verizon!
