Any DIY Eastern excursion suggestions??

So this will be our 2nd Eastern sailing in the fall. We are on the 09/26/15 sailing and we are looking for some non-snorkeling suggestions. It will be myself, husband, and two daughters ages 7 and 10. The girls get a little weirded out with swimming with the fish so snorkeling is a no go. Since most of the DCL excursions are centered around snorkeling and/or they are tours which may not be all that exciting for a 7 year old we are trying to find some DIY suggestions. We did Bernard's last time and went to Maho and loved which we are open to again but would like to see if there are anything different out there. Anyone have some ideas they'd be willing to share? Thanks!

Great advice! If you don't like having fish brush up against you, Megan's Bay is the place. Great beach, clear water, and very little in the way of wish. Also, if you are visiting St. Martins, we enjoyed Orient Bay. Again, very little in the way of fish.

Last time we were in St. Thomas, we went to St. John on our own. It sounds scary, but is incredibly easy and completely worth it.

Thanks for the responses. I think I may have an idea for St. Thomas - I had read before about going over to Water Island/Honeymoon Beach which I'm thinking of. I'm just kind of stuck for St. Maarten. I just posted another question about Seaside Nature Park as I was looking up horseback riding. Any thoughts? I have also looked at Loterie Farms but just not so comfortable with traveling out there on our own. Would love any advice or feedback anyone can offer. Thanks so much!

We used Joyce Prince tours for St Maarten. She knows the island because she lives there. She took us all over and was awesome with our kids. We did Loterie Farms and it was fantastic for the kids and adults, ropes/zip line course. We loved our day with her. Cost was $40 per person. We had her for 6 hours and it was great not worrying about driving. Highly recommend!

Oh great. So she took you to Loterie Farms and waited for you to finish the course and then took you other places after as well?

Yes! She would just wait and tell us where to find her. She took us to a beach where hardly no one was. Beautiful warm water! She took us to the French bakery that is so popular. She told us everything about the island. She even pulled up to a spot, and when we got out of the van about 60 iguanas came out of the bushes. We fed them.

Did you ask her why there was so much trash alongside the road?

No infrastructure like we have in the U.S. She would say this is the ugly part of town. French side better than the Dutch on those types of matters.

We used Random Wind in St Maarten in February and it was an amazing day. They do make one snorkel stop but you don't have to go. The other stop is at the airplane beach to see the big jet, there is another swim opportunity but really close to beach so fishes shouldn't be a concern. They have this great trapeze they set up for jumping off the boat. The food was top notch, and the all you can drink opportunities were plentiful, but the non alcoholic choices were unique. Best day of the cruise, honestly.
