i just had a question or two...

i'm thinking about applying for a part time position at our local TDS. what kind of things should i expect as part of the interview process...and (you can PM me this if you want) do they get discounts for WDW even if you are part time?

i work a 40 hour a week job now and wouldn't change that at all. but my DH is going to school now (online college) and i get so bored since he has homework to do all the time...i was thinking about just a part time position to help keep me occupied while he was attending school.

any advice??

Bumping because there's a TDS where we're moving and I'm thinking about applying there, too... ;)

I'm not a CM but I did just speak to a manager at my local DS. She said that you do get the discounts as a part time employee. The pay is minimum wage and you have to be available 3 shifts a week and 2 of them have to be weekend shifts-you won't necessarily have to work them all the time but you do have to be available. Not sure if this helps at all.

DH just said there is an offer from The Children's Place to buy out The Disney Store.

We were talking about that this weekend for me. I shop there all the time, so the discount would be good for me.

Are you going to try and work at the Castleton mall? i am going there today or tommorow to shop for my upcomming trip.

I am so jealous you are going to see clay.If you need a buddy I am available:love: :rolleyes1

i'm still kinda on the fence about applying...i'd love to work there and be able to take advantage of any discounts offered for travel to WDW or even DL...but i'm so selfish...i love having my weekends free to nothing! i could really use the extra money though to put towards our trip in november...

any CM's out there that can respond??

It's exactly as antkim responded. You need to be available at least three shifts a week, incl. weekends. Pay is LOW. And, let me tell you, you work your you-know-what off for min. wage!

I just left TDS after 11 years. You don't work there for the money, or even the discounts - you work there because you love Disney and your fellow CMs. I finally had to leave so I could have a life and weekends again!

Some stores are hiring temp. help for June into July. Maybe you could look into that. That way you could see if this was something you wanted to do long-term if they had a position open...

Okay, I hope this does not sound too negative and I think my experience was probably not the norm.

I worked at a TDS in MA (I'd rather not say which one) during my last year of college (this was about 6 years ago maybe). I HATED it.
I'm sorry but I really just did not like it at all. I'm not lazy and I enjoy working retail (I was working another retail job at the same time). I think I just got stuck with a lousy manager.

It was okay for a while. I did a lot around the store and most of the employees liked me. But a large portion of the employees were kids who didn't even like or care that much about Disney. Most of them could not even name one non popular Disney character or song. They had never heard of half the stuff in the WDW parks that customers would ask about.

Anyway, on the one hand, this was good because it made me look great. An assistant manager kept asking me to try to go for a manager position. I could not since I was working two jobs as it was and going to school full time.

This is why I finally left. I always figured Disney would be an education friendly company. Well, one night we had to stay late to do inventory. I asked way in advance to have that night off, as it fell right before a day that I had 2 college finals. They refused to let me. I had to stay there, after closing time, until 2 am doing inventory work. I had an hour commute home and so I got in at 3 AM and had a final 45 minutes from my house at 7 am.

It was awful. Thankfully, my professor let me take the final the following day after I explained the situation.

I quit the next day and my manager was not very nice about it. In fact, she told me I would never work for Disney again.

:sad2:

Hopefully, you will get a better manager than I did. My assistant manager however was wonderful.
