Actually, they got tagged as "Castrated Turkeys" by opposing fans and it just kinda stuck (Seems to describe the few I know...no offense to your brother intended)

Actually, there ain't no such thang as a Hokie...The hokies were once known as the "Gobblers", but they had a cheer that had the line "Hokie, hokie, hokie, hi !" and somehow or another, they came to be referred to by that.....Eventually, the school changed it's name to reflect what everyone already called them.

Actually, I could see them doing that again fairly shortly, but then I don't think they can use the word that Big East fans now refer to them by
