I just had mine tested and am waiting for the results.......

What were your symptoms and are you being treated for it ?

I was hyper for a very long time. Then I had my thyroid removed and was hypo a few times since. I always get terrible leg cramps, hair loss, headaches and complete exhaustion. I also get a very heavy menstrual cycle. Not fun! I hope your tests come back conclusive and they treat you properly if you have been having symptoms!

Fatigue
Weakness
Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight
Coarse, dry hair
Dry, rough pale skin
Hair loss
Cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around you)
Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
Constipation
Depression
Irritability
Memory loss
Abnormal menstrual cycles
Decreased libido

More extensive check list.

I've had it for years.

Complete exhaustion, dry skin, hair falling out and weight gain were the symptoms. Have been on levoyxl for years. The difference is like night and day.

best piece of advice: find out your numbers. The "normal" range is quite large. If you are symptomatic, have the dr. try a low dose for a few weeks to see if it works. (this can take some insistence - I tried for nearly a year) I feel awful when my numbers go up. They usually still fall in the "normal" range, but that's not my normal-feeling-OK number.

I have had it for a long time. I have had my medication increased and decreased several times. It's amazing what that little gland controls!!

I was cold all the time...could not warm up. Plus I started gaining weight. I also got hives frequently, which I thought was allergies but it wasn't. Recently, the doctor upped my dose of Synthroid....since then, I've felt anxious and constantly close to tears. I don't know if I'll adjust, or have to go back down to my old dose.

I have for many years. I had uncontrolled chills, very low (maybe dangerous) body temperatures. Was tested, and take a pill a day, have been fine ever since.

Thank you all for the replies. I have just over half of the classic symptoms that are listed here and on other sites I've found. Part of me is hoping that the results show something......

Thanks again !

Yikes! Out of those you listed, I have 11. :scared1:

I didn't have any symptoms other than weight gain, but I was on fertility drugs as well. Dunno. Still take my synthroid every day but don't feel much of a difference...

My Mom and ALL 4 of her sisters have hypothyroid Shelley. I have been tested yearly for about 10 years. I'm constantly exhausted- but so far my thyroid tests okay. One of my cousins was finally diagnosed after going through the same thing for years- seems to be kind of a hard thing to diagnose. Like someone else said, the normal range is so broad.....

This brings up a great point! It is difficult for some to get a proper dx.
Not to mention that a TSH alone is not sufficient in detecting all (any) Thyroid disorders. Also some doctors base normal values using the old ranges. It is way too common that some doctors do not test properly.

If you (a general you) are tested and still don't feel right I would see an endocrinologist or ask your primary to be specific about what they tested and give you a copy of the results.

This is a great basic website that lists the tests necessary to get a proper diagnosis.

Thanks! I just took one of the quizzes and it said I should have my thyroid tested. There was one particular test that my cousin had done and it finally showed her problem. I just can't remember what it was!!

I just had mine tested yesterday too! When I went to the link, I couldn't believe how many of the symptoms that I had!! Yikes!! :scared1: I told the doctor that I thought my three young children had made me tired and stupid (memory loss, concentration, etc....):rotfl2:
