Any disadvantages to buying resale?

We are looking seriously at buying into DVC and really want only a 100 pt contract in order to vacation every 2 years.

Because Disney directly does not sell only 100pt contracts, I am curious what they would say if I asked the "disadvantages to buying resale"?

To me, the biggest disadvantage is the resale process itself - it can take months to find what you want, negotiate terms, arrange for financing (if you need it) get it past DSisney's ROFR and into the DVC system. But once you're in, you are treated the same as any other member.

The only other disadvantge that I can think of is that your trading options are limited due to the smaller number of points in the contract. But if you don't plan to trade, it isn't even a disadvantage.

Best wishes-

The fact that you don't have access to Disney's easy financing could be a disadvantage if you don't have other options for payment.

If you can afford to pay up front, I think a smaller resale is a good way to get into DVC. If you only plan to go every other year, and you can get the right size contract for the resort you want, I would go for it.

We were in the same situation. Since we can only go once a yr, 100pts fit us well. I wanted to be able to pay cash, and just closed on a 100pt OKW contract through TSS. You may want to contact one of the resellers, tell them what you are looking for, and they may be able to take care of your needs. We worked with Jerry Sydow at TSS and it was Painless :goodvibes

From start to finish it will take longer before you have the points at your disposal to use, but other than that I don't see that there are any negatives to going resale. We bought both our contracts resale and have been extremely happy and there is no difference between a membership bought thru Disney and one bought resale.

The nice things about going through Disney is that if you call tomorrow and sign the paperwork next week, you can pretty much start making reservations right away. If you need financing it seems they make it easy.

However, if you have other ways to pay for it and don't mind taking a couple of months to get everything processed and having your points show up in the system, resale is a great way to go to get something specific that you want (size contract, sold out location).

ROFR is stressful!!! But, very worth it, IMHO!!!

I have purchased 8 contracts...6 via resale, and 2 via DVC. The DVC purchases were SOO easy it makes my head spin!! But, I feel very fortunate to find the resales I did!!

If you want a 100 pt. contract, resales are the only way to go.
