*Update*
Thanks everyone for the posts and PM's. It's funny I got more response from DIS than all of the dog boards combined. :)

Still no luck with anyone looking for him...but my Mom came out today and has taken him home "to spend the night". I'm hoping that this turns into a match made in heaven, she's older and has had some mobility problems (and is super lonely) - this boy would be perfect for her.

If I have no luck over the next 7 days finding his family then hopefully something will work out with Mom. I mentioned taking him to assistance training class and she didn't seem adverse the idea. (which for my mother is saying a LOT)

Anyway - thanks again to everyone.

Maryann :)

Hi

I know this isn't the best place to post this, but I'm desperate. I found a young Golden Retriever yesterday in Grapevine - choke collar, no tags. I spent hours driving around talking to people in the area with no luck. I have four "angels" at home that are NOT new animal friendly and I'm in a bind. I've listed him with rescue groups, shelters, online w/ message boards and classifieds. I'm putting up signs this morning, I didn't see any "lost" signs anywhere though. No telling what part of town he came from though, especially with everyone at the lake here.

This sweet boy has to have a family out there, he's SO well mannered, can sit/lay and is calm as can be. (I'm not pleased about him having a choke collar & no tags though) I took him to the house last night and tried him in the laundry room, he was so lonely, I ended up going in there and sleeping on the dog bed with him about 4 am for a few hours. As soon as I laid down he was under the blanket next to me snuggling. :( He stayed that way all night...he must be someones baby.
My dogs were NOT happy and I'm waiting for the retaliation.

If there's anyone out there in the area who wouldn't mind a "house guest" for a few days PLEASE let me know. All of the rescues, etc I've spoken to are full but can put him on the foster list. I just don't have anywhere for him to stay until I can do more searching.

Anyway - I apologize if this post is way out of line, but anything is worth a try. :)

Thanks for listening...here he is:

Have him scanned for a chip asap. It sounds like he IS somebody's baby, and there is a chance that they had him implanted with the tracking chip. Your vet or a local shelter should be able to scan him.

I'm sorry - I should have added that. I took him to the emergency clinic last night to be scanned for a chip but he doesn't have one. (or any tatoos)

Thanks :(

Sorry, I can't help you I'm in NC, but my Golden/std. Poodle mix would love a playmate if I were closer. Call the newpaper, here they don't charge to put an ad in the lost & found & maybe put signs up. Do you have any relatives close by that could help you out? If all else fails, look & see if there is a "no-kill " shelter in your area. Good Luck & keep us posted.

Oh, what a sweet guy!!!

I floated the idea of a houseguest here, and got a very strong negative from DH. :(

Have you checked with Flower Mound Humane Society? (http://www.fmhs.org ) They might have a foster home who could take him in immediately. A great group of very caring and quality people...

Thanks for the reply - I emailed FMHS, I have my fingers crossed! I hope he has a wonderful home out there looking for him.

Thanks again

We just got a kitten from the Flower Mound Animal Shelter yesterday . It is a beautiful facility at 407 and Chinn Chapel. We were very surprised that there were not more dogs there.
A lady brought in a stray she found on the highway while we were there and they gladly took him in.
Good Luck! That is very sweet of you to be so concerned!

You're not driving to Florida anytime soon, are you? Anyone you know driving? My sister helps with a golden rescue group in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and they are very successful in their placements. No friends that could take him in until his owner can be found? Neighbors? Did the rescue groups give you any leads?

You are wonderful trying to help this guy out! I hope the owners see the signs and give you a call soon.

T&B

He does sound like he belongs to someone. I wish I was in the area.

Ask your mailman. He might recognize whose dog it is. I went nuts a few years back trying to find the home of a corgi mix I found. Turns out it was a nearby neighbor. I called the shelter and he called the shelter, and they never gave him the message. If I had put a sign on the busy road behind us, probably would have found him right away. Then the mailman mentioned that he was familiar with the dog. Also the dog kept trying to run away in that direction, I probably could have put him on a leash and let him lead the way. Bless you for taking care of him, keep us posted. What a love.

If you can't find his owner or someone to take him, you could put an ad in the paper for a "free, sweet dog". Just make sure that you check vet references before giving him to someone you don't know. Some people out there use these ads to get dogs for "not so nice" reasons..

That was so sweet of you to sleep with him when he was scared...:( :)

If you can't find him a home, I'd love to have him. I'm not sure how we'd get him to Indy though.

That is great -- I hope it works out with your Mom, let us know. Now I'm worried your Mom will get attached and the owner will show up!

Maryann,

Just wondering how things were going with the dog you found. Have you found the owners or has your mom fallen in love yet?

giving this a bump to see how everything worked out

Awww, I bet your mom will love him and he love her. It sounds like a perfect match. Goodluck :)

Thank you guys for all of the support & PMs!

I am VERY happy to report that we have a new family member!!! My Mom has fallen in love with her "little Buddy"!

She took him home with him to stay the week while we searched for his parents. Nobody called any of the shelters, rescues, posted signs in the town he was found in, etc etc. I just couldn't believe it. By Wednesday she was rearranging the furniture in her house so he could see out of the windows better. I knew she was a goner. ;)

This is really ideal for both of them. After spending more time with him this week we realized how clingy he is and he suffers from separation anxiety. I'm guessing he has been abandoned or was neglected. Mom works at my office which is about 30 miles each way for her and she is able to bring him with her daily. This week he became SO attached - if she got up and went to the copier he went with her, anything she did he was her shadow. Everyone that came in she was showing him off to them and his tennis ball skills. :teeth:

I am so happy with how this turned out. He has a wonderful permanent home and he won't be home alone during the day. Although she will never admit it, I know my Mom is really lonely and I think Buddy will help her tremendously. I am going to get him enrolled in some assistance dog training as well.

Anyway - thanks again for all the support, I'm hoping to get a pic of the two of them together to post. She is signing him up for the pet exchange too, she's just so proud of him. :) :) :)
