Hey.

I was wanting to do a cruise in may 2020 for our wedding anniversary

However there is a chance my partner could be pregnant at this point

Is there any carribean cruises we could do that won't cause risk to the baby if she was

We were wanting to do a 7 night one

Any advice welcome

No, not with the itineraries Disney uses. Currently, of the places that they go that are Caribbean, only the Bahamas are reported Zika free. You might look at a Bermuda cruise though.

Bahamas has recently been declared Zika free. If they add itineraries to Bermuda in 2020 you might want to consider that

One could do a back to back cruise (3 and 4 night in whichever order) to the Bahamas; right now that would be on the Dream. Advantage is two stops at Castaway Cay ;-)

It’s hard to say where the disease will be in 18 months, but I’d note that there have only been 2 cases in the US Virgin Islands this year. 80 in Puerto Rico which is still struggled with Maria recovery and poor sanitation. That’s in comparison to 2016 (when I was pregnant) and the cases were 50,000.

I traveled while pregnant and don’t want to downplay the risks but her risks of contracting Zika are almost nil right now. It would be more dangerous for her to eat lunch meat or soft cheese than it would be to travel to these areas.

So u think the eastern Caribbean would be ok

Alaska & Europe would be your safe options. Caribbean is a no go if Zika is a concern.

Bahamas recently has been reported to be Zika-free, but given the fact that Zika has been a problem there in recent years, and given how important tourism is to their economy, I'd take that pronouncement with a grain of salt.

This is your future child you're talking about. It's not worth the risk. Alaska is relatively affordable in May, btw.

I agree with others I would avoid the Caribbean to be safe. A place that is "zika free" now might not be in 2020. Also, just want to be sure you are aware that any guest that will be 24 weeks pregnant or more during the sailing will be denied boarding, and this is is a strictly observed policy. And it's not clear to me if this is your partner's first pregnancy, but if so, can I gently recommend a vacation with a more generous cancellation policy than cruises in case your partner is just not up to it when the time rolls around (speaking as someone who threw up 10-20 times a day for the first 20 weeks of my pregnancies and could only eat dry saltine crackers--I would have murdered my husband if he planned an expensive vacation that I couldn't even enjoy).

I believe that a trip on the Disney Dream would be okay as it only does the same 3 ports over and over and over again, it has been mentioned above that the Bahamas is Zika free. Castaway Cay, like WDW has a network of carbon dioxide traps for mosquitoes.

For those who are interested, WDW uses chickens and nets with small carbon dioxide emitters

Castaway Cay also has an insect repellent/sunscreen station just off the gangway for good measure.

Thanks for the advice

Alaska does sound nice but it’s always cold where we are so would of rathered something hotter

And I don’t think Disney will be in Europe start of may

Other option is we sail with another line as i don’t think we have much else of a choice

The Transatlantic cruise usually departs in mid-May. You could spend some time at WDW, then sail back to Europe.

It fact that’s a really good idea. My only worry is it would price us out cos it’s a longer time but can always hope

Disney will be doing their transatlantic cruise in the middle of May you could look into doing that. I went to Alaska is May and it wasn't very cold and that's coming from someone from Florida.

Transatlantic are usually cheaper than just doing a sailing around Europe.

The eastbound transatlantic for 2019 (May 12, 2019) was VERY similar in price to the Mediterranean itinerary that starts immediately after the transatlantic, even though the TA is 13 nights and the Med is 7 nights.

The Transatlantic and Panama Canal cruises are among DCL's "best bang for the buck." However, the better the itinerary - the higher the price.

We were on the Fantasy 9/8 to 9/15. I watched the CMs set up this table from our balcony after we docked in Tortola. The cylinder containers are wipes - they were everywhere - Thank you DCL!! I got a closeup of the jug with the pump top.

They're trying, but I would probably pick a different destination if there is a chance of pregnancy
