this last few days while on the computer weve been getting tons of pop ups for saying things like your computer is infected click here to fix (yea right)
norton has expired--and a lot of other ads along the same lines--the best one is to remove annoying ads--while these ads are the most annoying ones

if I click on no or ingnore it starts downloading so Ive just been x-ing out for the most part I can at least get it off the screen but they always come back

not sure how we got these--it just started one day--

any help would be greatly appreicated--

thanks all

forgot to add--some of these pop ups say they found this or that virus--we checked the virus protection and that came up all clear

If it's a Windows machine, I'd make sure you have your OS/browser/other apps updated, restart your computer and run a check for malware.

Just coming here to say pretty much the same thing. It doesn't sound like ads-it sounds like malware.

thanks for the helpful replies but that has brought up more questions about what to do and where to check os/browser and were and how to go to run a malware check
thanks

I highly recommend Malwarebytes. It's free and it's got rid of a HUGE problem I was having. I've had Malwarebytes on all my computers for years. I'm VERY satisfied using it. If you're interested, here's the link: https://www.malwarebytes.com

Yes, Malwarebytes should take care of it. Another good thing to run after the malware has been removed is CCleaner's registry cleaner. That can tidy up a lot of stuff.

I agree with using CCleaner. I run that also on all my computers. It does get rid of a lot of useless stuff.

If anyone's interested, here's that link: https://www.ccleaner.com

great--thanks so much for the links--Ill have my hubby take care of this when he gets home

thanks again

One more thought: you might want to consider a Chromebook as a future purchase. I know it's easy to spend someone else's money ;) , but they're generally better with malware than Windows machines and easier to correct if you do happen to get infected.

Once you download the software, be sure to do the updates before scanning your computer. Good luck!
