I had a Brother Printer and have since replaced my laptop; when I try to download the software from the internet so I can scan, I get the following message:

For security and performance, windows 10 in s mode runs microsoft-verified apps

Should I change my laptop to S mode?

Here is a good article about exactly what 'S' mode is. Basically, Microsoft limits what your can download in S-mode to software from the Microsoft store as a way to supposedly improve security on your PC.

Even if you purchase a PC in S Mode, you can leave S Mode for free. It doesn’t cost anything, but it is a one-time decision—once you’ve taken the PC out of S Mode, you can never put it back into S Mode.

Take your computer off of S mode. It is super annoying!
