Any complications with resort reservation not being linked to MDE?

Here's the deal. I have a last minute reservation with a DVC owner. She does have our names on the reservation but has not linked us to MDE (not sure if she will manage before the trip due to a variety of factors).

Anything I should know about staying onsite without being linked to our MDE?

- I don't care about FPs as it was within the 30 days anyway.

- I don't care about magic bands as we have way too many old ones anyway

- I don't care much about EMH as I don't expect to take advantage for this trip

- Our names are on the reservation so I should have no issues with Magical Express by showing our passports.

- getting into our rooms might be a problem as our reservation is not linked to our magic bands (that we already have). Am hoping the front desk can issue us keycards or link our reservation to our MDE when we check in.

Any other complications I should consider? I am OK dealing with some complications but like to be prepared.

DVC owners typically do not handle linking a renter’s reservation to their MDE account. That’s the renter’s responsibility. If you have the confirmation number and your names are on the reservation, you should be able to link it to your MDE account.

Unfortunately I cannot link the reservation myself as someone else is staying the first couple of days. You cannot link unless everyone on the reservation is part of your family and friends (u cannot just link half the party). I asked the owner but doubt this will work out for various reasons.

Anyway, it is all settled already and since most of the onsite perks won't matter for this trip, don't see a point in kicking up a giant fuss. Just curious as I am sure there are other Disney onsite guests who have never gotten around to creating a MDE and how Disney manages this.

I figure showing ID when we check in and asking for room key cards should solve any problems. It is only 3 nights so not a massive deal although naturally, we'd prefer the fun and convenience of using our magic bands.

Whoa! :scared1:

The owner sold a single reservation to you AND another party, and they expect you to split it? That sounds awfully sketchy.

You will more than likely have issues with MDE and the room.

And a warning to anyone else ever thinking about doing this with a sketchy DVC owner ~ don't.

Wow, ain't no discount good enough for me to go through all that hassle.
I am going to be very surprised if you don't run in to problems even checking in and getting access to the room.

If there are any problems, the resort desk won't help you fix them. They don't get involved in DVC rentals. Any help you would have to get would be via the owner you rented from, and given what you've said already, that won't be quick or useful.

MS won't talk to you either.

The contract (you have one, right?!) is between you and the owner of the timeshare, and Disney is not going to enforce or get involved.

It's OK and something I knew from the beginning. Basically its like when folks have different friends/family members switching out during the course of a reservation. We are listed on the reservation so Magical Express and checking in separately from the lead guest won't be an issue.

I have already thought about the bedding and will certainly have clean sheets to sleep on. It's a great point.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback :) Looks like I will be OK with just asking for keycards and we will be just fine.

So you're bringing your own sheets?? With friends/family you at least know each other. Non-cash DVC rooms have a fixed cleaning schedule, not a "we are trying to game the system and need a cleaning before we're supposed to" schedule.

Still seems WAY sketchy to me. Do you have a back-up plan if the first set of guests don't leave when they are supposed to? Because Disney won't help you. I hope things work out for you - I personally won't even consider renting points period and would run far from someone saying "I'll rent you PART of a stay."

And if they do leave, I guess the second point is making sure they no longer have access after they leave. Also double check they didn't leave any room charges unpaid.
