Any college students around here?

I am back in school after earning my first degree (BS Accounting) in 1995. I'm taking a few classes at Kent State East Liverpool and have applied for their Physical Therapist Assistant program for fall 2010. If all goes as planned, after two more years I will have a new career!

Since you don't know what you want to do...I strongly suggest that you take a few courses in technical communication/writing. A straight English degree is not very marketable (trust me on this, I have a number of friends who for some reason not only have a BA and Masters in English, they have PhDs in it and can't find work ANYWHERE).

Technical writing is a great field that pays well and there is plenty of room to advance. I do consulting work in technical writing during the summer in order to make a bit of extra money. The downside to technical writing is that most of the positions are 'contract' jobs -- so you may only have a job for 3-8 months, then have to find another on. An entry level technical writer can start at $18per hour, and I have seen those with 5-10 years experience earn as much as $75 an hour.

Another college student here! I'm majoring in Health care Administration at Auburn and hopefully will be graduating in Dec.

I'm in my sophomore year of college (only a week of classes and then 3 days of finals left!!!) at a VERY small branch campus of Penn State. I am majoring in psychology and considering a minor in business. The only downside to the minor is that it adds another semesters worth of credits that don't overlap for my major and I really want to graduate on time. I plan on going into animal behavior, but very few schools offer degrees in it and the branch campus that I'm at doesn't even offer any classes remotely close to it so I'm stuck with human psych.

I'm not a college student, but I teach English at a community college.

I would not recommend a proprietary school like DeVry. DeVry is limited in its majors, and--please no one take offense here--it (and the other for-profit private institutions like it) do not have good reputations in the academic world.

In addition to UCLA, you should consider a CSU school. The California public colleges do a nice job transferring community college credits to universities. I would also advise you to complete your A.A. before transferring because doing so makes the transfer process smoother than if you just take a bunch of classes at the community college and then transfer. If I were you, I'd talk to someone in the transfer office at your college, and get ideas about which colleges might be appropriate for you.

If you do decide to go into journalism, understand that print journalism is dying, so you cannot plan on working for a newspapers. There are different media outlets that might work for you, however.

You could do an English major and a journalism minor.

I'm not seeing it in the available class catalog for the next semester. Is Technical Writing supposed to be under English or is it another category altogether?

I'm a college student! (well, at least for another few weeks I am!) I'm a senior History & Theatre Arts major at Gettysburg College.

This is my last week of classes, then a week of finals, then Senior Week, then Graduation on May 16th. eeeeep!

But then I'm doing the Disney College Program starting on June 7th. yay! :)

If they offer it, Technical Writing is offered either in the English Department (possibly as Professional Writing, Business Writing or Scientific Writing) or in a Communication Faculty.

I'll look around for it then. Thanks a lot for your advice; I really do appreciate it.

I'll probably wait until Fall semester before I start buckling down on English courses, and spend Summer semester getting my Gen Ed out of the way. It'll be the perfect time to take Physics.

I can't tell you guys how excited I am to finally be going back to school. It's been such a hectic six months, having to give up my education to take care of my mother since she is still recovering from multiple surgeries, having fought off breast cancer. I can't wait to be in class lectures again.

I'm now officially a senior at the University of Louisville! I'm getting a dual certification in Elementary Education (K-5) and Early Childhood (Birth-5). I hope to teach pre-school next year!

My fiance will be graduating from Indiana University Southeast on May 10th with a bachelors in History. :thumbsup2
