today at the casino when I cashed in my ticket in the coins there was an indian head nickel
its very hard to make out any markings but from what I can see its for sure from 1937
its very faint but it looks like theres a D on the back but Im not for sure

just wondering could this be worth anything or should I just put it in my coin jar
thanks

That’s pretty cool! I always get a kick out of getting old coins in circulation, and wondering how they ended up there.

I have a small box of interesting coins found in circulation over the years. Wheat Pennys, an Indian head penny, a few silver wartime nickels, a few mercury dimes, and a few 1964 silver half dollars. Last year I asked the bank for a a few dollar coins for the kids and they gave me an Ike dollar!

There are lots of places online to look up the potential value of older coins. Condition plays a BIG part in the value and you generally can't determine the condition unless you are an expert in that sort of thing. Regardless of the supposed value of any coin, you still need to find a buyer willing to pay that price. Coin dealers are in the business of selling things so likely they will pay less and then put it in their inventory to hopefully resell to someone else.

I used to collect coins and felt the same way. I also used to collect paper money and always was fascinated when I got a bill with writing on it or was defaced (someone put devil horns on G. Washington), as in, what led someone to do this to a piece of money?
