Any cloth diapering mommies here?

We are in the beginning stages of planning a Disney trip in Sept of 08. I am thinking that my 10 month old will still be in diapers when we go. I am trying to decide if I take my cloth or if we do sposies for a week. If you took your cloth, did you wash while you were there? Was the time/cost worth it? How many CDs did you pack?

I've travelled with CDs before, but we've always had free washers and certainly weren't as busy as you'd be at Disney. Plus we drove... not sure about flying with a suitcase full of dirty CDs.

My boys were in nappies last time we went to Disney - my younger son was nearly 2 and my older one was 4 1/2 but still in nappies at night.

I decided to switch to dispicables for the two weeks, with mixed results. I prefered to use eco-sposies (eg Moltex Oko or Nature Boy & Girl) but these weren't nearly absorbent enough for my elder son, who could wee as an olympic sport, so I ended up using Pampers (yuk!) and they were still not totally leakproof. They were a bit better for my younger boy, who was less of a little pisher.

It is certainly more convenient to use sposies, assuming they won't leak. I did take my cloth nappies on holiday a couple of times, but only when I knew we had a washing machine available and when we drove.

One thing you could do is use pocket nappies (eg Fuzzi Bunz) and stuff them with disposable pads from www.eenee.com.au. Weenee pads are designed to use in Weenee pouch pants (a nappy cover) but work equally well inside any cover which will take a prefold and are even better inside a pocket nappy because they then work as easily as a disposable. I don't know if there is a US distributor - in the UK we get them from www.teamlollipop.co.uk. The benefit of doing this is that the pads are flushable and compostable (making them more eco-friendly than sposies) and you will only have to wash and dry the pocket nappy, which is much faster than drying cloth nappies.

I'll be very curious to see what other people's experiences have been. I CD my son and would love to start planning a trip but have no idea how to handle that side of things. I'd hate to switch to sposies. My DS could join in the Olympic wee event.

I could be wrong, but arent the washer/driers free if you stay at a DVC resort? I don't know if that is an option, but if it is...

We use disposables when traveling for a number of reasons. We use Tushies as they are gel free and more environmentally friendly than traditional disposables.

We use disposables when we travel, but we also use a disposable at night, so it's not a huge issue for me. Our next trip, we'll have a wahser and dryer in the condo so I'm considering it - but I'm just not sure I want to carry around his diapers all day. (At least with disposables, you throw away the dirty ones and have room for souveniers in the diaper bag at the end of the day! ;) )

Yeah, we are using sposies at night too. I am also struggling with the idea of dirty CDs with us for the day or even the whole trip. It just sounds like a real stinky mess!

I use the Motherease cloth for DS and we are currently "trying" to potty train. Not only is he an Olympic caliber wetter, I'm sure he's the gold medalist.:rotfl2: The only disposable that really works for us is the Seventh Generation. I prefer them to any other brand name(including the Tushies) we have ever tried. DS is so big he's busting at the seams in the Motherease so there is no way I'd even try to deal with them on our trip. I'll be taking lots of disposables and hoping for the best. I don't think there is any way he'll be potty trained by the 21st of Sept.:sad2:

Have you tried letting him be naked from the waist down for PTing? It TOTALLY worked for my son. He was trained in 3 days!

I never did find a dispicable that took my son through the night. He obviously did his 'big wee' in the early hours, as he usually woke me up by 3am to get me to change his bed.

At the end (when he was 6 1/2, before he got referred to the bedwetting clinic) I used to use pad-folded terry squares with microfibre inserts and a fleece liner inside a wool wrap. That combo worked a treat!

For daytimes in the parks, if you want to use cloth, go for something simple that doesn't take up room - prefolds, terry squares or pocket nappies with inserts might be best. If you use paper liners, you get rid of the messy bit anyway.

We used cloth with DS. Although we didn't go to WDW, nor on a long trip to DL, while he was in dipes, we did do trips (even camping!) with cloth. ON a longer trip, we washed. Shorter trip, we didn't.

We packed them in one big wetbag (the pail liner), and as they were used, we put them in the other pail liner we had.

When we drove, that bag went in the trunk. When we flew or took a train, it went in another suitcase.

Once we switched over to Swaddlebees side-snapping dipes, we had MUCH more room for dipes. FuzziBunz look trim, but they take up a lot of room! Bumkins AIOs worked well, too, and seemed a little bit cooler for our Disneyland trips.

I've used cloth diapers with two kids and always switch to disposables for travel. Especially for WDW, when it is hot, I would not want to carry around a days worth of dirty diapers. And my diaper wash routine is fairly involved, not something I want to spend my time doing on vacation. I would go for which ever option is going to make you feel more relaxed-its vacation!

I tried it a couple times and he runs straight for the couch or a bed to pee on.:rotfl2:

We're headed to Disney at the end of the month next month and we're planning on using our cloth. We figure we can hang out at the pool while we wash. OR DH can wash them in the mornings before DS and I wake up. We are planning on using mainly AIOs while at the park, but we may go for the fitteds and wool depending on how DS does in the AIOs (we use mainly fitteds and wool at home). We are driving though which makes it easier to transport the extra suitcase with his diapers in it.

I'll try to post to say how it went after we get back. I figure since we've done cloth on vacation before and since we can use the washing machines at the resorts it is just easier for us to stick with cloth rather then having to figure out which disposable diaper works and what not.

:) There's the difference! I found that the more complicated my routine was, the worse the dipes got. Wicking, leaking, smelling... I finally threw my hands up in the air, did the Simple Green + Washing Soda thing (instead of searching for no brighteners, no stink, etc etc detergent), did a hot wash, then an extra cold rinse, DONE. No problems after that, yay!

And makes it easy to wash on vacay. :)

I could have made it simpler if DH ever became OK with washing dipes with regular clothes (after all, if DS got muddy I just threw those clothes in with regular laundry), but he never got OK with that, so separate washes were always needed. :upsidedow

I washed nappies with other stuff. I used to dry pail, but I put the nappies in, did a cold rinse and then added the rest of the load.

I think you can make it as simple or as complicated as you like, although obviously there are sometimes other concerns like sensitive skin which make it more involved.

I always laughed when people asked if I had lots of extra washing - I worked out that I actually had less, partly because disposables leaked so badly that every nappy change was a whole-outfit-change.

I wash diapers separate but only because I don't do hot rinses with most other loads. My problem is we have hard water, so I have to do a couple rinses with vinegar because of the calcium. I went to my parents with my diapers once and it took me a couple tries to remember soft water=less soap!!

I love our cloth, but we take sposies when we travel. I'm sure it wouldn't be too much effort at all to continue CDing (and we planned to the first time we went to WDW in Jan.), but I want a break from everything when I'm on vacation :upsidedow No cooking, no laundry (if I can help it!).. ;)

I am really struggling with my wash routine right now. We just moved and in our old house we had super hard water. It seems very soft here. My DS had a horrible break-out from his dipes and I dunno what I am doing!
