Any cloth diapering mommies here?

I've cloth diapered 2 (well, my dd from 17 mos on and my ds is still in cloth while potty training). We almost always travel with sposies. I have traveled a few times with cloth but really it's only been when visiting family where we were going to be taking it easy. For a trip to Disney, cloth is just not for me. Sposies all the way. They are so much thinner so take up less room in the bag for the park, no stinkie dipes to deal with, no washing, no carting around dirties. IMO sposies are for convenience and at Disney I'm all about convenience.

One interesting thing I noticed when I visited Disneyland when my ds was about 7 mos old was that in their baby room they had what looked to be something specifically for cloth diaper rinsing!!! My memory has really gone, I can't remember exactly what it looked like but I asked the attendant and she said that was what it was for!!

very cool! :thumbsup2

I am really struggling with my wash routine right now. We just moved and in our old house we had super hard water. It seems very soft here. My DS had a horrible break-out from his dipes and I dunno what I am doing!

What are you doing? I know with my hard water, I have to use a decent amount of soap. Most of the CD sites say only use a tiny dab of detergent, but I found with really hard water, that just didn't cut it. I still don't use a lot - maybe 1/4 of what I would use on a load of clothes - but it's still more than I started off using. When I went to my parents' soft water, I had to cut way back on the detergent and stop using vinegar in my rinse all together. Ended up adding a shake of baking soda instead. I always rinse until there's no soap bubbles (and then next time use a little less soap until I find the right balance of soap/rinses.)

we used cloth on one trip and it was just fine. then we had our second and it just was too hard to ask a 2 year old to sit still while I wash cloth I washed onsite it was like $2 a wash and like 4 to dry... I took little containers of allen's and that was that... we stopped because our next trip was much longer and I didnt want to spend $6 to wash like 4 times

I took every diaper we owned with us

so I buy tushies diapers... no chlorine bleach no gel and more biodegradable. we treat them kinda like cloth. We dump out solid waste in the toilet and then toss them open and not fold and tape them into a diaper bomb.

because they do not have gel they dont have that funky smell like other disposables so being tossed even in the hotel room open doesnt cause a funk

goodluck

I use both at home and figure Ill probably do the same on vacation. Im staying at a DVC with washer and dryer in room, so it has more to do with the bulk in the suitcase. If you really wanted you could put half your diaper stash in a box and ship to the resort you are staying at, then ship home at the end of your trip.

This is my first trip with DD, but for shorter trips I bring both.

I can't say for Disney, but when we've been anywhere overnight with my son, we bring sposies. I generally don't plan on doing laundry until I get home, is I can help it.

BTW - it's cool to see so many other CDing moms here!!!

last year when we went to WDW, we did cd, but it was a major PITA!! we drove down from NE, stayed offsite and i ended up having to stay up late washing them. we are going next month and will be using disposibles up to two days before so i can wash my whole stash! :rotfl2:

I've used cloth diapers with two kids and always switch to disposables for travel. Especially for WDW, when it is hot, I would not want to carry around a days worth of dirty diapers. And my diaper wash routine is fairly involved, not something I want to spend my time doing on vacation. I would go for which ever option is going to make you feel more relaxed-its vacation!

that sounds like us- didn't want to cart the dirties around in the heat or spend a lot of time washing. The laundry rooms are busy enough anyhow without adding CD wash to it. I also have twins so our CD laundry is pretty hefty

I bet it's because DL was built in 1955 when CD was normal. Probably back then it was just what was done! Is this what you are talking about?

just wanted to say i cd'd both my kids and i loved it! It was so addicting! I definitely didn't save any money w/ my first - ordering too many cute diapers and going through SO many brands to find what worked best for us, which turned out to be fuzzy bunz :thumbsup2

anyway, then i had them all for second baby and saved money there.

to OP, when are you going? if it will be HOT, maybe don't cd... the dirty diapers sitting in a plastic bag under the stroller in the HOT weather wouldn't be something i'd want to deal with. you'd maybe have to wash every night so they're not stinking up your hotel room. If it won't be so hot and they won't be roasting all day, it probably won't be a big deal to cd.

We continue to hope for at least one more baby, so my little CD addiction becomes a bargain. :)

And we hardly dare to dream of a 3rd, where diapering would almost be free! ;)

(assuming of course that future babies don't need to be branded with "girl" diapers, and assuming I don't replace all the FBs with Swaddlebees...which is actually quite likely)

You guys are nuts. I spent $1000 on diapers and not a penny more. My eldest potty learned before he was 2 years and my youngest is currently learning. I have them all neatly packed away for a next child. I also loaned most of my diapers out to other kids... so most have been on 3 kids now and FREE bargan!

I cloth diapered our son. We took cds on several short trips (none to WDW), but I think I would use 'sposies on a WDW vacation.

Here is my take on 'sposies... I think they are like paper plates. I wouldn't want to use them everyday, but they certainly come in handy on occasion.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

For those of you who use sposies at night - I found some awesome night dipes at lullabydiapers.com

I've done WDW twice in cloth (7 months and 12 months) and once in sposies . The cloth times, I used flats and wool wrap covers. I also took about (small) 6 wet bags. I doubled them up, and sprinkled baking soda in the bottom. Once the 1st wetbag was full, it went into a sealed bin in teh trunk of the car. I only have enough flats for 3 days, so on day 4 I switched to Prefolds, and on days 5 and 6 I was back into my fitteds/wool and pockets or AIO's. I figure the flats and prefolds can withstand being dirty for a week and I wills till be able to wash them really clean at home. I also knew that I could rinse out the flats in teh tub and hang to dry in the hotel if I really wanted to keep teh smell down (I didn;t bother)

This last trip, I used sposies that were leftover from my 1st dd who is 7.5. I didn't want to deal with dirty toddler dipes (there IS a differnence, KWIM) for a week. I did move into cloth on our last 2 days there, since my home washer was "in sight"

I use those too under wool covers at night... I think they are called Lullaby Dreams..... and they rock.. They would definitley stand up to the heaviest of wetters!!!

I think I figured it out.

You might assume a $. I think I calculated I spent 1400. But actually that included the cost of our initial CPF stash, plus pail and a liner, which was actually a gift. And another liner, a wetbag, and fun things like a Seahawks dipe cover for Superbowl Sunday two Januarys ago. :) And we had a hard time figuring out what dipe worked best for DS. Settled on FBs, but then realized they weren't all that I felt a dipe should be.

The last dipes he got were Swaddlebees side snapping, and I fell so much in love with them, I can't quite imagine going back to the FBs for a future baby.

Of course, I would try to sell the FBs to recoup some of the money. :)

I don't think I'm nuts though.

Do/did you post on Liberated Lounge or SheKnows?

OK girls, you are cracking me up!

First...:lmao:
We figure we can hang out at the pool while we wash.
You do what you want, its not that, I thnk you should! Its just I am enjoying the faces on the other people as you start you load. Priceless :rotfl:

Second... you may have found the best security device for your strollers. You can leave cameras, wallets, whatever, just tuck it under your baggie.

Third... :rotfl2:

Tigerchic, honey, I think its time you start using the potty!

Last of all...dang! I should have investigated when mine were little! I followed that link and those baby rooms were sweet!

(i know there is no tone of voice heard here, let me assure you, you all rock, I'm totally for what you are doing. I was just smiling so big I wanted to share)

I think I figured it out.

I don't think I'm nuts though.

Its the fluff love... I guess I have boys so my options are far less fancy... so I bought the diapers and never collected them

I mean nuts in the most loving joking way

just cant get into collecting diapers. I did once try and bought some SOSs recieved one and paid way too much for a diaper! and scamed on the other 2... so I stopped

julie

Oh yeah, I never got into the SOS stuff. Too much money! Though I wanted to.

With DS I'm so glad I never had to figure out if I could really buy a ruffle-bottom enhanced FuzziBunz dipe. :)

But I did once buy two embroidered wool covers with Phish and Grateful Dead on them. And then DH dried one of them....:scared: Thankfully it only went down in size perhaps one size worth, it didn't become a doll cover. But he was not allowed to do dipe wash any more after that!

Do any of you all take part in the Great Cloth Diaper Hunts by diaperdecisions dot com? I haven't won anything yet, and it takes a HUGE amount of work to find the diaper icon on each site (it's like a scavenger hunt), but it's fun, most of the time, and you find out about a TON of other diaper sites, and other sites, too. (and for any of you Down Under, the great down under nappy hunt)
