........ there's usually someone in the family who isn't keen on Christmas pudding isn't there? I always have an alternative on hand!

The one thing I won't cook/serve/eat because I can't stand them is Brussel sprouts ( I heard there's a shortage of them this year - hope I don't start a stampede to the supermarkets :teeth: )

How about you and your family?

By the time I get to 25th December I will be on my fourth Christmas lunch (2 x family visits where the full 'turkey plus trimmings' is on offer) plus a lunch with work colleagues. I'm therefore sick of all of it by the time of Christmas day proper. This year we're escaping to the French Alps for Christmas, so I'm therefore hoping to avoid turkey all together on Christmas day!

Regards

Rob

Christmas puddings cant stand them!
Brussel Sprouts! One word! ~ YUK!!!

Other than that i'll eat mostly anything else on offer LOL :P

Over here it wouldn't be Christmas without the infamous fruit cake. So icky. I remember my mom making them when I was a kid; that was batter I never wanted to taste.

I think we're going to forgo the turkey this year and have a spiral sliced ham. Do you guys have those over there? They are soooo yummy!

OMG love brussel sprouts and all veg.

Love christmas pudding too. We will be in Orlando this Christmas and opted for Ohanas for christmas meal. But we will have a full christmas dinner when we get back to the uk.

Totally dislike american yams and collied(?) greens. Don't like brandy butter or egg nog or the marzipan and icing on christmas cake. Don't like twiglets which always appear at christmas.

Mince pies!!! I just hate mincemeat - yuk!

Here's another vote against Brussel Sprouts!!

I like Christmas cake but I find my husband's family favourite of Christmas cake and cheese offputting - although I must admit I've never tried it.

Nope,

Can't think of anything that I dislike at Christmas.

I guess that I'm easily pleased! - LOL

Christmas Cake, Christmas pudding,Mince Pies, Brussel Sprouts, dates(yeuch!!),cranberry sauce, Stollen and the list is endless, I think Christmas is the only time I Loose weight!!.

brussel sprouts - YUK!

I'm not a fan of christmas cake either, but will usually have a small nibble. My family eat it with cheese too - never understood that myself.

Now I know why I am the size I am! I like it all!!!

Especially brussel sprouts!! LOL. Yummy with chestnuts mixed in.

Actually - I lied - the one thing I dont like is the mini sausages and sausage meat stuffing. We have Chestnut and sage/onion stuffing.

Not heard of cake and cheese before now! Do you all literally mean a slice of cake and a lump of cheese on the same plate - at the same time!

(Imagine me pulling a grosse face!) YUK:confused:

yup Janice, small piece of christmas cake, small piece of cheese, and I seem to think a slice of apple, all on the same plate - I think it must be something perculiar to Yorkshire, kind of like having the Yorkshire puddings before your meal.

Bev

I love Christmas cake and wensleydale cheese, it is a yorkshire thing, I got it from my mum!

We have 2 fields rented out to a brussel sprout grower, we do every year, so we get lovely fresh sprouts on Christmas day (they usually give us a sack of mixed veg that they grow elsewhere too.

Do you know that they are sending the brussels to Poland to be peeled, packaged then returned to the UK shops as they cant get anyone here to do it. Thats shocking.

it's a very very heavy fruit cake - almost more fruit than cake - and it's usually soaked in alcohol (the fruit and then the cake), covered in marzipan and then white royal icing.

We have the same kind of cakes for weddings too

I don't really like them, so I had the top tier as a sponge cake and the rest was fruit cake (to keep my mum happy). I am dubious about any cake that has to be made months in advance, and will quite happily keep for a year.....

OK, that's our fruit cake. Can't stand it! Although we don't cover them with marzipan and royal icing. Ick, that's like adding insult to injury. Sweeeeet!

You don't do wedding cakes like ours? Ours are normally white cake layered with various kinds of fillings, jams, pudding, etc, with butter cream frosting. Very yummy. Royal icing is becoming more popular over here for wedding cakes. It holds up better, you can put more stuff on it.

Ok, Shirley - now you've got me worried about Brussels sprouts. I've got my Christmas food arriving on Christmas Eve courtesy of Waitrose Direct. Are you telling me I might not get any? I can't imagine Christmas dinner without sprouts! I'll probably start buying them up now wherever I see them. Do you remember when sugar was rationed in the 70s? My Gran had a larder full of Tate and Lyle - she bought her 'ration' from each shop every day!
