Any chance on getting a 3rd class package USPS?

Maybe I should start a pool on this...

I knew it was late to order, but ordered an item from a specialty catalog that shipped yesterday that, according to the website, with "regular shipping" would take 5-9 business days to get to me. No problem, I was willing to take the chance, since expedited would have cost me $5 more than the item itself.

I get the confirmation email, and it went 3rd class USPS!! (Plus, with no tracking, so I don't even know where it is.) So, I call, and the company rep says, "9-15 business days for delivery", and offers me the chance to pay for expedited shipping on a second copy of the same item. Ummmm, nooooo.....

So I just fired off an email to their customer service, stating that I felt that if the rep was right, then the website is wrong, and THEY should pay the expedited shipping to get me one on time. If the rep was wrong (which she probably wasn't, since it went 3rd), then I'll just wait patiently.

Yes, I know I was cutting it close in the first place, but shouldn't the website have said "sent by slow boat to China, especially over the holidays", if that's true ?

I have sent things "parcel post" that arrived MUCH faster than I thought they would, but I don't know how that differs from 3rd class.

In my area at least, USPS tends to ramp things up in December and items I send/receive take much less time, everything from 1st class to Priority to Parcel Post seems to arrive in record time. You may get lucky!!!

Yes they do!! My Mom, Stepdad and my husband work for the USPS. My DH is a letter carrier. He said yesterday he's averaging 50-60 packages a day on his routes. Pretty much however it is sent, if it's a package, they are doing everything possible to get it delivered by Christmas. I hope you get yours in time.

All I can do is hope. I was planning on finding the gift recipient something nicer, and then fell back on this as my secondary plan, so I'm really going to be ticked if I end up shopping last minute for her. One of those people who "has everything, needs nothing" KWIM? I'm just spoiled by all the large companies that ship so quickly at reasonable rates...

Is 3rd class the same thing as media mail? I ordered something on Ebay once, a book, and it was sent "media mail". It took a couple of weeks. Hopefully, since it's Christmas, teh USPS will try hard to deliver sooner.
