any cell phone deals for travelling in wdw florida

Hi: We have rogers cell phone and were wondering is there some sort of out of country package for family members to call us at anytime and vice versa, that will not cost alot while hubby and i are in wdw.

When we were in Florida April 2006 our phone quit working on us as soon as we crossed the border. Ours is Bell Mobility tho.

Can't answer OP's question as I have a Bell Mobility phone but to Debbiet1...you have to request "roaming" be activated on your phone in order to be able to use it in the United States. I have had no problems using my phone while at WDW....I don't go crazy with it as I have a pay-as-you-go plan but it does work in WDW.

We have pay as you go also. We live wayyyyyyyyyy out in the country and unless you go to the corner of the garage, turn towards the mountain.. get on tippy toes.. it doesnt work lol We have it for emergencies and for travelling but we never knew we had to contact them when we crossed the border

We didnt want to use our cell in the US as roaming fees and long distance charges, etc...

We bought a cell phone at the Wal*Mart in the US called Tracepone is cost $19.99 PLUS bought the prepaid card which I think it was 30 min for $9.98 there were higher ones but we bought incase of emergencies what I LOVEd about the phone I could call back to Canada without long distance charges. We of course cannot use it in Canada but when we go back to the US at least we have a cell and we drove from Toronto to WDW so we needed one incase.

I activated in FL but once I left there I was charged Roaming fee which was 3 units per min where locally it was 1 unit per min but it worked right until we got to the Canadian Boarder (didnt try it once we got back) but that might be the best way and we bought the cheapest phone but one that would work anywhere in the US and no long distance fees

We're from NS and have a monthly plan with Aliant ( Bell ). I called they said it would work anywhere in North America but was expensive. They suggested a package added to our monthly bill for a certain number of minutes for $10, $20 or more depending on how many minutes you want. You can just get it for the time you're on vacation and then have it taken off. Worked out great.

I've actually researched this as well. We're planning to go to WDW on Aug 27th and currently we have two cell phones with Bell Mobility on a Family Share plan. There are two choices for roaming with Bell Mobility:

- Connect Florida plan $20.00/month would give you 100 minutes that we can use between two phones or to call elsewhere. Extra minutes over 100 would be charged at 39 cents/min. Long distance $0.75 extra. There is a minimum commitment of 2 months. Roaming coverage in Florida only.

- Connect USA plan $40.00/month would give you 100 minutes, extra minutes $0.75. Long distance $0.75 extra. There is a minimum of 1 month commitment. Roaming coverage across USA.

Now we'll have to decide if $40 (two months commitment) worth it for 8 days on Florida.

well we're going to be there at Christmas.. so we're going to have to look into some phone plan so that we have a phone as we're driving down. Also, we havent told family (Parents) that we're not going to be here for christmas soooooooo I figure we're going to have to at least Call them Christmas day. lol

Funny that I came upon this thread while on the phone w/Aliant straightening up some things on my daughters cell as well wanted to ask about the US rate. I can either add $10 for 20 minutes or $40 for 100 minutes. No minimum months, just call before going to set up. Each additional minute would be $0.75. I am going to add the $40 plan because 20 minutes is nothing at all. Then I would call home on the plan as well instead of using the room phone.

We have TelusMobility and change our plan to the Talk N.America plan for the time we are in Florida. The monthly fee is $75 for 250 minutes however we call just before leaving and then call to revert back to our normal plan when we arrive home and are thus only charged a pro-rated fee. Works great for us!

The US plan is the one we'll be going with. The other plan is $10 for 20 minutes and that isn't enough at all, it doesn't take long to use up 20 minutes really.
