Any Canadians thinking of selling?

OP: Have you consider using your points through RCI for local destinations while the border remains an issue? At least the points wouldn't be going to waste??

Talked about is about a year ago but COVID is unlikely to ever be gone moving forward. If you think Canada and/or the US will continue to lock down the boarders or have high bars to travel then you might be best to cash in on the big jump in resale value of your contracts.

Long term we just don't know what will happen.

Also the US just had the largest monthly jump in consumer price index since 2008 pre economic recession.

Final note you can likely find renters pretty easy especially if you are good with renting them out directly here or elsewhere.

We have no plans to sell. We rented out long ago here on the Dis, it was quite easy and fast.

Canada announced today that effective Aug 9, Americans who are fully vaccinated, and their kids under 12 though not vaccinated, can travel into the country from the US. They will need a negative test taken three days before travel, but the quarantine, second test, and other rules applicable to vaccinated Americans coming into Canada will be gone. See, e.g., https://www.forbes.com/sites/suzann...anada-border-reopen-august-9/?sh=6cbea8c26174 US has not issued a response yet but likely will allow Canadians to enter US under same or even better conditions.

We live in the UK and are in a similar position to the OP, no travel to the US for the foreseeable, certainly not this year.
We have rented out our 2020 and 2021 points here on Disboards no problem.
We used some of the proceeds to pay 2021 and 2022 dues, we can just wait it out until we can travel again.

Would you consider traveling without your husband for a year? Maybe consider getting a travel insurance that covers covid infections for you and your kids and leave dh at home?

I wouldn’t want to get stuck away from dh for that long

My friend, who also owns dvc, suggested this last night. It seems like a good idea. I’d forgotten about rci

This is my thinking at times. Testing while away holds little appeal. I truly wondering if dvc is just a time that has now passed. I’m willing to hang on a bit longer—maybe use rci—but I’m wondering if Disney is done for us

May have to put my points out there again. Things are different than they were four, five months ago.

Fellow Canadian here. We rented points through a broker a couple of months ago with no problem. Worth it to give it a try.
We, too are thinking that we will sell our points in the next few years. Surprisingly we've found that the longer we are away from Disney the less we miss it. And we are diehard fans.

Canadian here and bought DVC this year. We have flights and resorts booked for 2 trips and will likely book next August also. We may rent some points out if AP's don't return soon but we don't plan on selling.

With the boarder closed since March 2020, with no reopening in sight and all the testing requirements in place, coupled with rising delta levels in Florida, any other Canadians thinking of selling?

We have 860 points. With no plan for being able to use our points any time soon, I’m beginning to think our dvc days are over. I don’t know how much longer we can hold the points, pay dues and not use them.

We have a November trip planned but with rising delta levels, coupled with testing and the boarder closure, it’s not looking good. We will not travel until testing is ended. Getting Covid while away would cause real problems for getting home to work obligations.

I figure we will look at selling come December if things don’t improve.
We have two trips planned. Being fully vaccinated, we aren't too worried about getting Covid. There seems to be clear evidence that outcomes for fully vaccinated adults and unvaccinated healthy children alike are very positive.

If the main concern is around testing, and potentially receiving a positive result and the inconvenience that would bring I would factor that in when booking off work if possible. I know that's a lot to ask, but that way you would get your trip without the stress of worrying about how soon you could report back to your workplace.

In regards to keeping your DVC past December - I would very much suggest keeping them as others have already and use your points at Aulani or other RCI destinations.

Although vaccination rates have slowed stateside they have not stalled as is often reported. There are still over a quarter million Americans a day getting their first jab and as covid continues to take a toll on the unvaccinated - I don't think you will see that rate slow much further.

That said - coronavirus's are nothing new and unfortunately they won't be going anywhere in our lifetime. All we can do is learn to live with them as we have previously.

Life is full of risk and we all need to make those risk assessments on our own terms - you do what feels right for you and your family. But don't give in to worry and sell just yet - I think you would regret it in the long term.

No plans for us to sell… we are actually starting to look at a small add on contract to bump up our points… we were lucky and used all 2019 points and 2020 so we have non left “use up” .. cancelled our November 2021 trip and rescheduled to April 2022

That was a good stroke of luck.

Very difficult to rent I’ve found. I rented a few and then no bites on the other points through a broker. Things might be different now, though. This was a few months back.
It’s actually quite dynamic now. Everyone is itching to go on vacation.

I bought in about a year ago and rented out my 2021 points no problem. I plan on keeping it but understand why people would choose differently.

The thing is, everyone needs to do what they are comfortable with.

I'm just really wanting a vacation right now, and while I think I'd probably be considered on the cautious side, I feel pretty certain our 2022 trip will go ahead (direct flights down and back).

DH & I are currently fully vaccinated, but won't travel until the kids are. I assume based on current data this will be early 2022 at the latest.

Right now we are planning a vacation next summer. Our plans are:
*If variants/vaccination rates are about the same as now in Florida it will be resort only (and trust me we will enjoy this :).
*If things are a little better we will add on an MK day with BBB, CRT and a dessert party
*If things are a lot better we will do a normal trip

Just want to point out that many who go to WDW are not from Florida. So the vaccination rate for all of Florida is less useful than if you were planning a trip to NYC as an example.

Just wanted to add a recent perspective. I listed Aug 2021 SSR points with David’s on July 2nd. I rented them yesterday on 7/27, so 25 day turnaround and it was totally stress free on my part.

I was actually planning to call David’s today. I have to cancel our November trip. Will put those for rent. May even try to rent the reservation as is since availability is so thin now. Failing that, we will put the points into rci.
